ABSTRACT

This study focuses on ungrammatical statement in Miss Congeniality 2 film. Ungrammatical statement is group of words that is semantically understandable but syntactically is uncommon. Miss Congeniality 2 is one of those popular Anierican Hollywood films, which is released by Castle Rock Entertainment, Fortis ftim, ft۶P; Village Roadshow Pictures At December 22, 2000. Miss Congeniality 2 is a comedy, and thriller and romantic film. Therefore the ungrammatical statement may use in sbme of conversation in this film.

This research is aimed to know the kinds of patterns of ungrammatical statement used by the conversant in flim. The data are the utterances of the conversation in ؛Miss Congeniality 2 in the forms Bf transcript of the dialogues, which are then, analyzed ting descriptive qualitative method

The results of the research show that ungrammatical statement used in this film has several patterns, they are; riliss of using to be, Error in using question form, omissiBn of ordinary verb, omission of auxiliary verb, miss of using auxiliary verb, miss of using - ing, overusing -ing, omissidn of object, and miss of using verb. Miss of using to be; the speaker uses two verbs together with in a sentence without any additional words usually used to separate two verbs. Error in using question form, in using the question form, the speaker usually misses in forming question form systematically; a questioh form usually used is uncommon construction. Omission of ordinary verb, the speaker omitted the ordinary verb of the sentence, to be. Omission of auxiliary verb, either in construct the interrogative form or positive form, the speaker always omits the auxiliary verb, so the sentence will be truly ungrammatical. Miss of using auxiliary verb, the speaker usually missed in using auxiliary verb either in construct the interrogative form or positive form. Miss of using -ing, the statement actually should use verb -ing either in constructing progressive form or in another construction. Overusing -ing, in forming a present sentence, the speaker still use verb -ing, whereas the verb -ing should be used in progressive form. Omission of object, the speaker omits the object that makes the sentence truly ambiguous. Miss of using verb, the speaker had failed to use the ordinary verb, the ordinary verb that usually used for subject.

Besides that there are some patterns that are not found in this analysis. They are overusing specifier, overusing complement, overusing head, and null-projector or null head

AH of the statements are ungrammatical but it is still understandable, the sentence is understandable, because the listener understand what speaker means. The understandable can be seen in the answer of the listener or the reaction of the listener. However as the language users, we are capable of understanding more rather thin simply recognizihg ungrammatical construction and correct versus in correct or ungrammatical text. So, when we read pieces of language, we normally try to understand not only what the word mean, but also the speaker word intended to convey.
