Discourse analysis on Emha's Markesot Bertutur Lagi

ABSTRACT

Emha has written so may works, such as in poems, essays, novels, short stories, scripts, cassettes and so on. His ideas and actions are always critical and surprising. His interest is so wide and includes many actual problems in social, culture and politics. He, as critical intelectual and also a poet,often does not give a damn about conventional rules. Emha’s book are written in mixture of Javanese, arabic and Indonesian language. This book (Markesot bertutur lagi) can make feel sad, happy, serious and wonderful, but behind it there is a deep value. Therefore, the writer is interested in analysing Emha’s writing.

The purpose of this study is to find out the reference, presupposition, implicature and inference on Emha’s Markesot bertutur lagi.The scope in this study is limited on reference, presupposition, implicature, and inference from nine tittles of the book.

This study uses descriptive design to describe the content of discourse analysis. And the key or main instrument of this study is the writer herself, she spends a great deal of time reading and uderstanding the book of Markesot bertutur lagi, to identify the data accordance discourse. The triangulation used in this study, she used a combination of methodological triangulation and triangulation of data sources.

This study found out that Emha uses ia,dia, saya, kita, mereka and engkau to refer to the same thing that is Markesot or Markesot friends, but sometimes he uses those pronoun to refer to different thing, So it can be said that Emha is not consistent in using reference. Emha also uses a single person or actor that is Markesot so it is easier for him, to make the lexical reference. Emha makes many presuppositions and asumptions fo the readers on his books, for example Robbul Mustad A’fin Emha presupposed that the readers understood who Robbul Mustad A’fm. Emha uses implicature in his writing for apologize each other in Idul Fitri؛،؛؛؛؟ example bikin sekor kosong-kosong means that we he presupposed that the readers can understand what he write. Emha also uses inference in his writing for example ada yang ngonangi Markesot jalan kaki di suatu gang di tengah perkotan Surabaya. Ada juga yang malam itu ketemu di suatu gardu. We can infer that Markesot stay in many places. He is in the town and also at the village, we can also infer that he stays in little town because in the village there is no gang and the city there is no gardu.

Eventually, the writer suggests that this study can enrich the understanding of reference, presupposition, implicature and inference on discourse analysis also futher and deeper study on Markesot bertutur lagi book or other books be conducted.
