Abstract

ABSTRACT

There are many languages in the world, however English is more often used for international communication. It is used to interact among people or nations. English is used in many aspects of life such as education, business, culture, and religion. In language, there are many components: vocabulary, structure, reading, listening, writing, spelling, and pronunciation. Pronunciation is a difficult matter that needs serious attention. In this case, pronunciation is not only on utterances but also in written form of pronunciation symbols. In some books that are published by some publishers, there are many similarities and differences are found by the writer, for example, in Rudy Haryono, with the title ',‘Special English for Children”, published by Pitra Pelajar, Gresik, Jawa Timur, 2002; M. Kasir Ibrahim, with the title ,,English for Children" published by Bintang Usaha Jaya, Surabaya 1999; and In Burhani, M.S with the title ’٠ English for Children” published by Lintas Media, Jombang.

Therefore, this study aims to give description concerned with comparative study on pronunciation system in three English books for children. Especially, this study is conducted to know the answer to these research questions; (I). What differences are there in three English books for children? (2). What similarities are there in three English books for children? This study is considered to use descriptive analysis. In collecting data, the writer uses observation and data analysis based on the statement of the problems.

The result of this study; firstly, there are many differences and similarities mistakes that found in the three English books for children, it is about 147 pronunciation differences and pronunciation similarities totally. Secondly, the writer found many kinds of differences and similarities such as, lack of guide, there is no verb form, conjunction, interjection and preposition. Based on the.finding some suggestions are proposed to next researchers to conduct the same topic for other books.
