Abstract
ABSTRACT
Indonesia has many varieties of local languages and dialects, some of those languages are: Javanese, Madurese, Batak and so on٠ Banyuwangi is one of small town divided into 175 villages Usually, Banyuwangi people speak Osing, In social phenomena Osing is very unique and special. It has unique sentence structure, sound system or spelling system. It is similar with Javanese language used in east Java. Many young people do not want to speak Osing or they do not know thoroughly their own language. But there are same villages whose youth speak Osing as a means of their daily communication. Those villages are, Pakistaji, Temuguruh, Buminh and so on. Because they felt that Osing is one of their identities and they want to continue their culture. The writer limits her study just at the Osing user’s area especially Osing used by the youngsters in Temuguruh village.
Before conducting the research the writer formulates the problem as follows: What are the language source used by the youngsters in Temuguruh - Banyuwangi ؟ What types of Osing are used by the youngsters in Temuguruh - Banyuwangi 9 Who are the speakers of Osing ? What topics are discussed when they speak Osing 7 and In what situations and places is Osing used by the youngsters ؟
In this study, the writer uses descriptive qualitative design because the data obtained are words, statements and phrases. The subjects of this study are the youngsters who live in Temuguruh village. The writer used instrument on her study, its instrument include interview and participant observation. The data source of this study were some words and some statements from some informants related to the topic being discussed. The writer also used two kinds of triangulation those are: triangulation of data sources and investigator triangulation. The writer just intend to describe the data obtained as they were found in the field.
Base on the result, and discusion of the data, The writer find out that Javanese language is the language source of Osing used by the youngsters in Temuguruh. The types of Osing used by the youngsters divided into five types those are the words which have phoneme / i / in the end of word can be presented into sound [ai], the words which have phoneme /u/in the end of word can be presented into sound [au], the words which have strong stressed in the pronounciation, the phoneme w , / r ١ //1 / by using the symbol / ww / rr /, /11 /, the words which have variation with palatal y , in these phoneme / b/, / d/, / g/ can be presented [by],' [dy] and [gy], the last is the words which have glotalization in the pronounciation, the phoneme /e/and / د/. Can be presented by using the symbol [ e’] and [ □’ ]. The speakers of Osing are the youngsters from lower class and the youngsters from upper class, Osing is also used by educated and uneducated people. Local music is the most popular topic of Osing used by the youngsters. Usually Osing and Javanese Osing used in informal situation like among families who can speak osing. The places where Osing is used by the youngsters are in vary like in street market, field and other places.
Finally, the writer expects that this thesis can be a stimulus for student who have a desire to conduct a sociolinguistics analysis. In addition the writer would like to suggest that a local language is one of our national identity, don’t be shy to use it especially for the youngsters. And the research can be helpful and worth reading for those who are interested in and learning it.
