Abstract
ABSTRACT
This is a literary analysis. We know that literature reflects the life of human beings. Literature is concerned with thoughts, feelings, behaviors or attitudes. Literature, especially novel, can enrich and enlarge our experience and interpretation of life.
In this case, the writer analyzes Mira W’s novel entitled " Jangan Ucapkan Cinta”. She tries to learn about antagonist character traits based on two combined aspects, namely psychological and sociological aspects. The psychological aspect consists of personality structure and development, while the sociological aspect consists of social environment.
In this thesis, the writer presents problems of the study, namely (1) How are dr Eko’s character traits? (2) How is the effect of social environment to dr Eko character traits?
The purpose of this study is to describe the character trails of dr Eko based on personality structure; and to describe the effect of social environment to dr Eko character traits based on his family and surrounding family. Based on these two aspects, she describes dr Eko’s way of controlling himself or his feeling and emotion, which he had during communication with other characters, especially, in his behavior to gain Aldi’s jealousy and anger.
In this study, the writer uses descriptive qualitative design, because this study will describe the data descriptively and inductively. This research uses structural approach, because the data of this study is drawn from structural text of novel. The data source of this study is obtained from the novel entitled "Jangan Ucapkan Cinta” by Mira W. The process of data collecting in this study is by reading and understanding the novel, classifying and categorizing the data based on a certain criteria. Furthermore, ٦'he steps of data analysis are classifying the ؛;elected data in term of character traits, then analyzing the discourse and idea which are originated from the antagonist character based on the effect of social environment to character traits, and finally making conclusion and suggestion based on the analysis.
Having analyzed the data, the writer finds out that doctor Eko had good character trails as a polite, graceful, wise, helpful, and good person. But, he had also bad character traits, such as his jealousy with his elder brother, easily getting angry, tricky, tending to force his will, and enjoying the sorrow of others. He was jealous with his elder brother, Aldi, because his elder brother was more gentle, cleverer and more handsome than he was. He disliked his elder brother, Aldi, because Aldi could get everything he wanted* while Eko could not get everything he wanted. This had made him feel angry with his surrounding people. He felt that people around him disliked him. His character traits are influenced by social environment. The social environment involves his educational background* friends, neighbors, and family. That is the cause why he had strange and bad attitude behaviors around his social intercourse.
Finally, the writer expects that this thesis can be a stimulus for students who have a desire to conduct a literary research, especially about novel. In addition, the writer suggests that the other student would analyze much more novels or other literary works.
