Abstract

ABSTRACT

This Thematic Analysis of Shakespeare's Tragedies of Macbeth is finding out Macbteh’s sub-themes, which are determining main-theme.

They are many reasons of why I chose this topic to be analyzed. First, the existence of Shakespeare’s prestige than the other playwright. It is also determined by the theme inside of his work. Hence, in this study, I try to analyze one of the most famous Shakespeare tragedies; Macbeth.

Second, Macbeth is one of the greatest tragedies, which are written by William Shakespeare in the Elizabethan era. It has been admitted by many experts that Shakespeare creates the remarkable tragic hero of Macbeth. Macbeth as the greatest treasure of our dramatic literature. Macbeth is a tightly complex work of art, and a number of theme and ideas stand out of it. It is an exploration of evil as its different manifestation

The purpose of this study is finding out sub-themes, which are building the main-theme. This thematic Analysis is included in qualitative research by using Motivational Unit Analysis. This Motivational Unit Analysis is used in analyzing drama or play, means that analyzing the playwright’s ides (theme) and stage direction. Relating to this study, analysis of stage direction is not used because it is not rele١٢ant.

Result of this analysis shows that the problem is around human strengths and his weaknesses. From this problem, I can elaborate four sub-themes, which are determining main-theme in this play. Those are; (1) The influence of the evil to the tracery, (2) Love of woman will easily persuade man, (3) The power lead to tyrant, and (4) Treachery will lead to suffer.

From those sub-themes, it can be found main theme is ،،Treachery, Which is influenced By Evil and Power and Love Will Lead to Suffer.”
