Abstract
ABSTRACT
Language has a big role in society. By language human being has free in expressing what in his\her mind and make friendship relation among people in different region. Taken for example is Javanese. Javanese is one of regional language used by almost people from East Java and Central Java. People who come from outside them generally can’t speak it, but after years live in Javanese society they will be able to speak Javanese.
This study the writer studies about Javanese spoken by STAIN Malang students from outside of Java Island. This study purposed to find out some factors that caused the students switch and mix the code. The other purpose is to find out how do the parts of speech change in the dialogue. Realizing the purpose to reach, the writer decides to carry out the study using the Descriptive qualitative studies. The subject of this study is STAIN Malang students from Madura and Palembang who have lived in Malang for three years or more. The instruments used to collect the data is recording, personal note, observation and the writer herself. Then, the procedure of data analysis is translating the recorded data and after that, the writer analyzes each dialogue to find out the factor that influence students switch and mix the code by using the Ervin Trip’s theory that involves: (I) the setting, (2) the participants and the status of their relation, (٥) and the topic. And than she will take the conclusion from this analysis.
Based on the result of the study, it can be concluded that factor or reasons can influence the students switch the code are the participants and the topics being discussed. Their reason is to response another’s speech and they switch a code depends on the topic being discussed. Meanwhile, factors can influence the students mix the code is the same as switching factors, and theirs reasons is influenced by the background of the students’ culture, namely to make more fluent and more comfortable in their communication. The other reason is they feel less knowing of Javanese vocabulary and because they don’t know or difficult to find the synonymous of those word in Javanese.
Meanwhile, change the parts of speech happens when they make conversation with Javanese students and they use an inappropriate of parts of speech level in Javanese. It is caused they do not understand well about it, and can’t determine is it from a noun or a verb class.
