Abstract
ABSTRACT
'Indonesia has many local languages or dialects throughout many islands, which are still used by their native speaker to communicate in certain areas. Javanese language is one of the local languages in Indonesia spoken in the province of east and central Java. As the other languages in Indonesia, Java also has several dialects. Tenggerese dialect is one of dialect of Javanese dialects, which is used by people around the Tengger mount in east Java as their language in daily communication. It is spoken by younger and older people.
Tenggerese dialect consist of two varieties dialect, regional and social variety. Some people think that Tenggerere is gradually marginalized caused by the improvement of medium of communication. Day by day, it will be died even it will not be used in the future. That why the writer was interested in conducting this linguistics research. In this study, the writer limited her analysis based on the process and the function of Tenggerese dialect, because the time available of the writer is limited. Furthermore, this study will give contribution to the area of linguistics and enrich the references especially for other researchers.
The writer used descriptive qualitative in conducting this research, because she observed, interviewed, and transcribed the data of Tenggerese dialect especially on affixation. In addition she did not account the data in numbering at all.
The subjects of this study were the people who were really the native speakers of Tengger who had high capability of answering the questions given by the researcher. The data of this study were collected by interviewing the informants directly. The instruments used to collect the data were observation and interview. In observation she used recording and field note. In interview she used unstructured interview which has advantages in obtaining complete data.
To avoid bias in this research, she used triangulation to test a validity of the data she got. She used two types of triangulation. First, methodological triangulation, second, triangulation of data source
Lastly, the writer took a conclusion that there are many process affixes namely; prefix, suffix, infix, simulfix, prefix-suffix combination. They have function to form comparative degree, part of speech, passive and active form, possessive, imperative and exclamatory.
