Abstract
ABSTRACT
In every communication process in which human beings express their ideas, though, purpose, feeling, etc. There are speech events and speech acts. In speech event (in which conversation takes place) speaker is not only doing something him self, she/he is also requiring something from the listener. It can be in the form of an offer, command, statement, and question. These terms are known as speech acts.
However, This study is intended to analyze speech act used by teachers to students in Surya Buana Modem Boarding School Malang, Speech act is the uttering of a sentence in order to express an intention the speaker wants a listener to recognize, the speaker? attempts to get the listener to provide information or require the listener should recognize the course of action and cany it out. It means that the listener should recognize the function of an utterance is not always recoverable by reference to the form of sentences used. If the listener knows the function of what the speaker says, the conversation exchanges achieve a cooperation between the participants.
Related to the above explanation, it arouses the researcher curiosity to know further and analyze the speech act used by teachers to students in Surya Buana Modem Boarding.
The problem of the study are (1) What are the characteristics of speech act made by teachers to students? (2) What is the locutionary, illocutionary and perlocutionary of teacher’s speech act?
The purposes of the study are to analyze the speech acts used by٨eacher to students in modem boarding school. This research uses a descriptive method because the data analysis is in the form of the dialogues not numerous, there are 15 dialogues as the data.
From the result of the data analysis, it can be concluded that the speech act used by the teachers in Surya Buana Modem Boarding School can be analyzed as information, suggestion, command, rejection etc. It is can be form of speech namely direct and indirect speech acts. There are two kinds of speech acts uttered by teachers in the formal form and informal ones.
The result of the data analyzed in the form of locution or what is said,٠llocution or the intended meaning and perlocution or the effect of the locution. Some data shows that teachers speech acts depend on the situation, setting and condition where the speech act occured. The teachers speech acts will be very important to the students willing and achievement of daily activity.
This study comes to the conclusion that speech acts can be the form of direct and indirect form and occur some action of the hearer. In the other side it can be rejection, suggestion, information, command act, etc.
