Abstract
ABSTRACT
The existence of figurative language in a literary work can not be denied and avoided. Figurative language is an expression, which needs to be interpreted in order to achieve a particular effect. The example of usage the figurative language is personification and hyperbolism. To make or to describe a thing looks alive or to do something such as what human has done is personification expression, while to do describe a thing more attractive and to express it by making exaggeration expression is called hyperbolism. The unique of figurative language is that someone can’t understand it by only reading at a glance but we have heard and known the steps further to understand and to comprehend the lyrics of song which contain of figurative language.
Personification and hyperbolism is also found on lyrics of songs written by Indonesian composers. One of them is KLA Project. Their special characteristics are their poetic songs, and lyrics of song says what has looked, sing the truth in express feeling spontaneous that happen around us and they try to deliver the messages for their listener.
The problems discussed here about the usage of personification and hyperbolism in a lyric song, the comparison of process forming ]personification and hyperbolism and also the meaning of each expression. Since to discuss every personification and hyperbolism in KLA Project songs would be impossible, this research will be limited on 20 songs. From the first until the eighth album. The writer hopes that this research may become a way to comprehend the lyrics songs and to be a guidance or understanding to avoid misunderstanding. And the writer wishes this research can stimulate the reader in order to they have a sensitivity sense to criticize the literary works.
The data in this research are taken from KLA Project song texts. The writer has searched, collected, and listed the lyrics of song selectively, and taken a song of each album that contains personification and hyperbolism, then she analyzed them in detail about meaning, and background of the songs.
The writer has found that not all of the lyrics song consisting of personification and hyperbolism. The elements of analyzing the figurative language in a song, namely. (1) Meaning (what the meaning of usage the figurative language), (2) Comparison (what is being compared in expressing the idea) and (3) The background of songs are created.
From the analysis, the writer concludes; firstly, personification and hyperbolism exist in some of KLA Project songs. Secondly, personification and hyperbolism are collected and analyzed into meaning, .which explains the lexical meaning and the expressive meaning, and background of the songs, which describes how the song tells. Lastly, the usage of personification, which compares the ،human’ with ،non-human’ (concrete object), and between ،human’ with ،non-human’ (abstract object). While the usage of hyperbolism based on the function of words, classified into verbs, nouns, and adjectives.
The writer suggests the readers or the other researchers who want to make further researches, they can analyze the other types of figurative language in the lyrics of KLA Project songs, semantical aspect, and sociological aspect which can find in some of their songs. And also the writer hopes to KLA Project fans to pay more attention to the personification and hyperbolism so that misunderstanding can be avoided.
