Abstract
ABSTRACT:
Aurivillius compounds have the opportunity to be used as photocatalyst compounds that have the potential to be used as antibacterials. This study aims to determine the crystal structure, particle size, morphology, band gap energy and photocatalytic activity of SrBi2Ta2O9 compounds against antibacterial tests synthesized using the NaCl/KCl mixed salt melt method. The diffractogram of the SrBi2Ta2O9 compound shows that the sample was successfully synthesized, but an impurity phase was formed as indicated by the presence of peaks at 2θ (o): (a) 52.6o is Ta2O5, (b) 58o is Bi2O3, (c)37.8 and 56.1o is Bi24O36. SEM images show that the morphological shape obtained is plate-like which still has agglomeration with a relatively large particle area in the range of 1.70673 ± 0.14407 µm2. UV-Vis DRS spectra show that SrBi2Ta2O9 compounds have band gap energies of 2.8 and 3.06 eV. In the antibacterial activity test, the SrBi2Ta2O9 compound with light and without light decreased, the decrease in growth in conditions without light showed that the SrBi2Ta2O9 compound could inhibit bacterial growth without a photocatalyst mechanism caused by the SrBi2Ta2O9 compound having antibacterial properties.
