Abstract
ABSTRACT
There are some problems faced by students in learning English vocabulary. They have some problems on the,vocabulary. Everyone, of course, always wants to be free from his problem. The researcher thought that it is not only the students who want to cope with the problems, but also their English teachers try to solve their students* problem in learning vocabulary. That’s why the researcher would like to know the students and their English teachers cope with the problems faced by the students at SMU Dr. Musta’in Romly Payaman Lamongan. The objective of this study is to find out the problems faced by the students of senior high school SMU Dr. Musta’in Romly Lamongan in learning vocabulary, to know the students and their English teachers cope with the problems.
In this study the researcher chooses the descriptive qualitative method because the purpose the study is to provide the picture of phenomena as it naturally occurs. The sources of this research was by students of Senior High School Dr. Musta’in Romly Lamongan. There are 62 students as the subject of the research. In this case, the researcher paid attention to the problems faced by students of Senior High School DR. Musta’in Romly Lamongan. For collecting the data needed for this research, the researcher used three kinds of instruments namely questionnaire, interview and observation.
After the data was analyzed, it was shown that most of the student had difficulty in different pattern. As the result shown the most students had difficulty in more that one pattern, even though students had difficulty in both the plural forms, irregular verbs, preposition and idiom. Some students also felt preposition and idioms as difficult patterns. Little students stated that plural forms were difficult for them to be memorized and understood. The others supposed hat only the irregular verb as their difficulty. There are some cases concerning the learning vocabulary, die technique of learning vocabulary, the technique of learning, the influence their success in gaining the purpose of learning. The result above shows that most of the students had good interest in learning vocabulary. That was the important thing that must be considered by a teacher.
I reorder to the students can improve their English vocabulary well, the researcher suggest to the students as the following. It is expected that the students have dictionaries and handbooks that are needed in learning English vocabulary and even it is magazines for their success in improving their vocabulary. The students should practice their new vocabulary regularly in oral and written communication.
