The language styles in phone conversation of the broadcaster and the callers in english expression program of Mas FM Radio

ABSTRACT

English Expression Program is one of special radio programs handled in every evening in which some callers call the broadcaster and they are talking about a topic that has been chosen. While Mas FM is one of private radio station in Malang that has a special program not only entertains by its music, but also to educate the listeners. Therefore, many callers use Mas FM as their medium to express their idea. This guided the researcher to analyze the language styles used in English Expression Program broadcasted by Mas FM radio. Then, it hopefully gives the contribution to language and literature study, especially in discourse area.

This study used a descriptive qualitative design because it describes the language style in English Expression Program of Mas FM radio. The data were in the form of utterances, which were collected from Mas FM in special English Expression Program by listening and comprehending them several times. They were 9 conversations that consist of 17 data. The data consist of honesty, politeness, attractiveness, and choosing suitable words. It automatically she the researcher was doing formulation of findings and describing the data based on the language styles. After that she crossed check the finding with an informant. From the data, it was found that the language styles are used by the broadcaster and the callers in English Expression Program.

Furthermore, the researcher suggests that the future researchers conduct the similar same of study with more complete data and discussion. Then, for the broadcaster and the caller in English Expression Program of Mas FM radio, they should consider and understand well the Iheory of aspects of language styles, and choosing suitable word in order to be successful in phone conversation.
