Abstract
ABSTRACT
Literature can be seen as a reflection of life. Sometimes we can experience the world through our imagination, though we might never have a chance to do. By reading a novel, we may acquire amusement that will lead US to know perception of beauty and make US sensitive to artistic work in general.
Feminism is the movement for the political, social, and educational equality of women with men; the movement has occurr ed mainly in Europe and the United States. It roots in the humanism of the IS century and in the Industrial Revolution. Feminist issues range from access to employment, education, child care, contraception, and abortion, to equality in the workplace, changing family roles, redress for sexual harassment in the workplace, and the need for equal political.
There are two objectives of this research, first is to describe the women’s rights in the society rcllcctcd l’y female character in Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre. Second is to know how the author’s cultural background inlluences her literary work described in Jane Eyre.
In this research, the researcher used literal) criticism as her research ا design to conduct the research. Because literary criticism is the only research design that is directly related to the literary works.
From the novel, the researcher found five women’s rights, that are:
ا. Woman rights in making decision
The female character that name Jane Eyre can makes decision about everything in her life by her self, she always tries to solve her problem by her own way,
2. Woman rights in getting education
Jane as a woman demonstrates that general education is more important than wealth, and education is very important thing not only for men but also for women.
:لم Woman rights in making interaction in social affairs
Jane Eyre got unfair treatment from her social environment, especially from her Aunt’s family members.
٦. Woman rights, in getting freedom
Jane cannot fulfill he* right of freedom because her social environment does not support her to get it and it caused by her position as a poor orphan.
5. Woman rights in getting job in economy
There is a differentiate between men and women in getting chance of jobs, it happen in Mr. Oliver’s needle-factory, in this factory most of the worker are men.
Related to the biography of the author, we know that effect of the author’s cultural background that inlluences her attitude toward her literary work because ir. that time the author felt oppressed by her society, and by writing a novel she want to send the message of feminism to a Victorian-Age society in which women were looked upon as inferior and repressed by the society in which they lived, and beside that she created this novel to siipport and spread the idea of an independent woman who works for herself, thinks for herself, and acts of her own accord.
From this research, the researcher hopes that the readers can catch the novel’s message given by the author especially about feminism and the other researcher who focus on this topic about the feminist perspective can analyze wider and deeper research. ٦ his study is very limited and far from the perfection, so that the researcher hopes that the next researcher can give more attention to this topic.
