A pragmatic study on speech acts used in conversation(dampak kerusakan lingkungan Hidup) on nuansa pagi on RCTI

ABCTRACT

The phenomena of language are interesting to be investigated. Almost each part of people life uses a language. Including the conversation that will discuss in this thesis. The researcher want to find out what act that used in this conversation, the way to perform of speech act in the conversation, the method of the presenter lead the discussion, and the last is the repair that is used when one of the speaker makes a mistake.

When the researcher investigates the conversation recorded at 9"' December 2002, he use some tools to investigate. They' are language and linguistics theory, pragmatic theory, context of situations, speech act and its types. By using this tools the researcher hopes to get a much infonnation about the problem to find.

The researcher uses descriptive and qualitative approaches approaches to find the answers. It is very important to be planned, because those approaches will guide the researcher to collect and analyze the data. It is aimed to answer and to solve the research problems. The research method consists of some section. They are research design, research instruments, data sources, data collection, data analysis and validity of study. Research design discusses about a plan to get the way to collect and to analyze the discussion. After making a plan to get the data, the researcher uses some instrument to get the data, They are tape recording and direct observation.

After getting the data, the researcher analyzes them, there are some parts in this section. They are analysis of the discussion, the method of the presenter to lead the discussion, and the type of repair that appears. After analyzing the discussion, the researcher concludes all of the discussion. In the analysis of the discussion, the researcher discusses about W'hat act behind the sentences and how the speaker perform that act. after that the researcher try to find what act that is used by the presenter to make the conversation in the right order, After that the researcher try to find out how the presenter or the source make a correction and repair them in the discussion. And the last the researcher use a triangulation method to make the data valid.

Finally, the researcher makes a conclusion and suggestion in the last section. The researcher concludes the research findings in this section and makes a suggestion. By making a suggestion, the researcher tries to make this research is useful for anybody who tries to make a further research that has connection with this thesis.
