Abstract
ABSTRAK
Islam sebagai agama selama ini ditempatkan sama dengan agama lainnya yang tidak lebih hanya memberikan penjelasan nilai-nilai transendent, dan karena itu dianggap tidak memiliki keterkaitan apapun dengan sains yang terbangun di atas fakta empiris. Pada titik inilah secara ekstrim menjadi alasan mendasar lahirnya dikotomi antara Islam dan sains, dan dalam rentang waktu cukup lama turut mempengaruhi geliat studi Islam hingga mendekati abad millenium ini, ditandai dengan adanya kesadaran bahwa ada anjuran mendalami sains dalam Islam. Selain itu, fakta menunjukkan bahwa dalam bentuk apapun paradigma dikotomi sama sekali tidak menguntungkan bagi seluruh dimensi kehidupan umat Islam dan justru menjauhkannya dari kompetisi global yang kian tidak terkendali.
Momentum kesadaran tersebut menggerakkan lahirnya banyak pemikiran untuk memformulasi pemahaman mengenai Islam dan sains yang nantinya diharapkan dapat menjadi pencerahan dalam menggeser pemahaman dikotomis menuju integratif antara Islam dan sains yang pada gilirannya melalui paradigma tersebut umat Islam mampu mengambil alih peran peradaban yang selama ini didominasi Barat.
Dalam konteks keindonesiaan, transformasi IAIN menjadi UIN sebagai PTAI yang kredibel sekaligus merepresentasikan institusi pendidikan tertinggi umat Islam, memiliki peran strategis dalam mersepon gerakan integrasi Islam dan sains melalui serangkaian kegiatan pendidikannya. Disinilah penelitian dalam tesis ini akan bekerja untuk memahami paradigma pengembangan integrasi Islam dan sains di PTAI, dan sebagai obyek penelitian yang reasonable dipilihlah UIN Sunan Kaliga Yogyakarta dan UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. Melalui penelitian kualitatif, kedua obyek penelitian tersebut diteliti dengan pendekatan multi situs dan dukungan analisis komparasi konstan yang diharapkan mampu menjawab fokus masalah yang terkonsentrasi pada; 1) Bagaimana konsep pengembangan integrasi Islam dan sains di PTAI? 2) Bagaimana implementasi integrasi Islam dan sains di PTAI?
Hasil temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Integrasi Islam dan sains di UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta dikembangkan dengan Moral-Spiritual Capacity Building (Pembinaan Kapasitas Moral-Spiritual), Intellectual and Academic Capacity Building (Pembinaan Kapasitas Intelektual dan Akademik), Institutional Capacity Building (Pembinaan Kapasitas Institusional), Social Capacity Building (Pembinaan Kapasitas Sosial), dan Entrepreneurship and Managerial Capasity Building (Pembinaan Kapasitas Kewirausahaan dan Manajerial). Sedangkan di UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang pengembangan integrasi Islam dan sains diupayakan dengan, mewujudkan Arkanul Jāmi’ah dan menghidupkan suasana kampus islami, membangun budaya ilmu, intelektual, pengembangan penelitian, dan karya ilmiah, memperkukuh kelembagaan, manajemen SDM dan pengembangan sarana fisik kampus, pengembangan kemahasiswaan dan pengabdian pada masyarakat, dan memperluas sumber pendanaan. Sementara itu, kedua PTAI, masing-masing mengimplementasikan integrasi Islam dan sains melalui paradigma integrasi-interkonkesi di UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta dan paradigma pohon Ilmu di UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang.
Dengan temuan penelitian tersebut dapat dimanfaatkan bagi kerja akademik maupun ilmiah di berbagai ins titusi pendidikan, dan direkomendasikan kepada peneliti berikutnya agar melalui penelitiannya dapat lebih mendalami implikasi integrasi Islam dan sains secara kuantitatif hingga kepastiannya dapat diukur. Sementara bagi obyek penelitian, berbagai hal yang ditemukan dalam penelitian ini dapat diapresiasi secara positif untuk pengembangan lebih lanjut bagi kedua PTAI, baik secara akademik, keilmuan dan institusional.
ABSTRACT
All this time, Islam as a religion has been put together with the other religions which are having nothing more than provide an explanation about transcendent values, therefore Islam has been considered not to have any association with the science that is built on the top of empirical fact. This point has become an extremely fundamental reason of the birth of dichotomy between Islam and science, and in the long time span it has influenced Islamic studies stretching to nearly a century of this millennium, characterized by the awareness that there is a suggestion to explore science in Islam. Additionally, the fact remains that in any form paradigm dichotomy is not at all has a beneficial for the whole dimension of Moslem’s live and it keeps them away from global competition which is increasingly out of control instead.
Momentum of consciousness has motoring the birth a lot of thought to formulate an understanding of Islam and science that is expected become enlightened in a dichotomous shift towards an integrative understanding between Islam and science, which in turn through the paradigm of Muslim civilization capable of taking over the role that had been dominated by the Western.
By the Indonesian’s context, IAIN’s transformation become State Islamic University (UIN) as well as represents the highest Moslem’s Educational Institution, it also has a strategic role to give a response integration movement of Islam and science through a series of educational activities. This is where the research in this thesis will work to understand the paradigm of the development of Islam and science integration in UIN, and as an object of study that has chosen reasonably by UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta and UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. Through qualitative research, those research’s objects are investigated with a multi-site approach and constant comparative analysis support that is expected could answer a concentrated focus on the problem; 1) How does the concept of scientific development and the integration of Islam in IHE? 2) How to implement the integration of Islam and science in IHE?
Final research finding shows that the integration of Islam and science at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta is developed with Moral-Spiritual Capacity Building, Intellectual and Academic Capacity Building, Institutional Capacity Building, Social Capacity Building, and Entrepreneurship and Managerial Capasity Building. While at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang Islamic, integration development of Islam and science pursued by, realizing Arkanul Jami'ah and liven an Islamic campus, building a culture of science, intellectual, research, development and scientific works, institutional strengthening, human resource management and infrastructure development of the campus, student development and community service, and expand funding sources. Meanwhile, both the UIN, are respectively implement the integration of Islam and science through the integration paradigm-interconcessional in UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta and tree of Science paradigm in UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang.
With these research’s finding can be used for academic and scientific work in various educational institutions, and also can be recommended to the next researcher so that by the research in order to further explore the implications of the integration of Islam and science quantitatively with a measurable certainty. As for the object of research, some various things that have found in this study can be appreciated positively to further development for both IHEs, both academics, scientific and institutional.
