Abstract
ABSTRAK
Sejarah kolonialisme Belanda di Indonesia menempatkan Snouck Hurgronje sebagai tokoh kolonialis terbesar, terutama pada akhir abad ke-19 dan awal abad ke-20. Hal ini dibuktikan oleh kebijakan-kebijakan pemerintah kolonial Belanda yang secara garis besar didasarkan pada pemikiran tokoh tersebut, terutama berkaitan tentang Islam sebagai agama mayoritas pribumi. Dalam hal ini, pemikiran-pemikiran Snouck Hurgronje diarahkan untuk melakukan domestikasi terhadap Islam, sebagai upaya melanggengkan kolonialisme Belanda di atas.
Hasil penelitian ini merupakan konstruksi historis tentang Pemikiran Domestikasi Islam Snouck Hurgronje dan Implikasinya terhadap Pergerakan Islam di Indonesia Era Kolonial (1889-1942). Sebagai penelitian historis, penelitian ini berupaya menjawab permasalahan, yaitu: (1) bagaimana prinsip-prinsip dasar yang terdapat dalam pemikiran domestikasi Islam Snouck Hurgronje di Indonesia era kolonial? (2) bagaimana implikasi pemikiran domestikasi Islam Snouck Hurgronje terhadap pergerakan Islam di Indonesia era kolonial?
Berdasarkan permasalahan di atas, hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemikiran domestikasi Islam Snouck Hurgronje, atau yang dikenal dengan istilah “Islam Politiek” terformulasi dalam tiga kategori, yaitu pertama, bidang agama, secara umum diungkapkan bahwa pemerintah kolonial seharusnya memberikan kebebasan kepada pribumi Islam dalam melakukan ritual-ritual keagamaan. Kedua, bidang sosial kemasyarakatan, pemerintah kolonial seharusnya menghormati keberadaan lembaga- lembaga sosial Islam, di samping berusaha menarik perhatian pribumi Indonesia pada kemajuan dan manfaat dari kebudayaan Barat (Belanda) melalui kebijakan asosiasi kebudayaan dan pendidikan. Ketiga, bidang politik, pemerintah harus melakukan intervensi dan memangkas penyebaran ide Pan-Islamisme dan semua bentuk agitasi politik yang dapat membangkitkan perlawanan pribumi terhadap pemerintah kolonial.
Pemikiran domestikasi Islam Snouck Hurgronje di atas, pada perkembangannya memberikan implikasi terhadap pergerakan umat Islam di Indonesia dalam manifestasinya berupa organisasi, baik sosial kultural maupun politik, serta munculnya friksi-friksi pemikiran di kalangan intelektual Indonesia baik dalam bidang politik maupun bidang pendidikan dan sosial kultural, yang secara ideologis-filosofis-politis mengindikasikan adanya oposisi antara unsur-unsur Islam dan unsur-unsur non-Islam (sekuler) dalam pergerakan dan friksi-friksi pemikiran di atas.
ABSTRACT
The history of Dutch colonialism in Indonesia put Snouck Hurgronje as the biggest colonialist character, especially at the end of the 19th century and early 20th century. This is evidenced by the policies of the Dutch colonial government which outlines these figures are based on the thinking, especially regarding Islam as a religion of the majority indigenous population. In this case, the thoughts of Snouck Hurgronje are directed to domestication of Islam, as an effort to perpetuate on the Dutch colonialism.
The results of this study is the historical construction of the Islamic Domestication Thought of Snouck Hurgronje and the implications for the Islamic Movement in Indonesia Colonial Era (1889-1942). For historical research, this study sought to answer the problems, namely: (1) how the basic principles contained in the Islamic domestication thought of Snouck Hurgronje in Indonesia colonial era? (2) how the implications of the Islamic domestication thought of Snouck Hurgronje to the Islamic movement in Indonesia colonial era?
Based on the above problems, the results of this study indicate that the Islamic domestication thought of Snouck Hurgronje, or known by the term "Islamic Politiek" formulated in three categories: first, the field of religion, in general disclosed that the colonial government should give freedom to the indigenous Muslims in performing religious rituals. Second, the social field, the colonial government should respect the existence of Islamic social institutions, in addition to trying to draw attention to native Indonesia on the progress and benefits of Western culture (the Netherlands) through a policy of cultural and educational associations. Third, the political sphere, the government must intervene and cut the spread of the idea of Pan-Islamism and all forms of political agitation which can generate indigenous resistance against the colonial government.
The Islamic domestication thought of Snouck Hurgronje at the top, the developments have implications on the movement of Muslims in Indonesia in its manifestation in the form of organization, both social cultural and political, as well as the emergence of frictions thinking in Indonesia among intellectuals in both the political and social education and cultural fields, the ideological-political-philosophical indicating opposition between the elements of Islam and elements of non-Islamic (secular) in the movement and frictions in mind.
