Abstract
ABSTRAK
SnO2 merupakan bahan semikonduktor yang sangat aplikatif, salah satunya dalam aplikasi sel surya. MgO merupakan bahan yang banyak dimanfaatkan sebagai absorber. Berdasarkan alasan tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sifat optik bahan campuran MgO-SnO2 jika diberi perlakuan temperatur kalsinasi dan variasi komposisi yang berbeda. Tahapan penelitian ini meliputi: preparasi bahan, simple mixing MgO- SnO2, kalsinasi MgO-SnO2, karakterisasi sifat optik dengan spektrometer UV-Vis dan refraktometer Abbe. Hasil karakterisasi UV-Vis menunjukkan spektrum absorpsi dan koefisien ekstinsi tertinggi terdapat pada sampel dengan temperatur kalsinasi 650oC sedangkan pada variasi komposisi terjadi pada MgO-SnO2 7:3 dengan puncak absorpsi masing-masing 1.656 a.u dan 1.595 a.u. Absorbansi dan koefisien ekstinsi tertinggi terletak pada rentang panjang gelombang 305-340 nm. Bahan MgO-SnO2 mempunyai transmitansi di bawah 55% pada rentang panjang gelombang 200-1100 nm, sehingga bahan MgO-SnO2 dapat diaplikasikan sebagai absorber. Dari data absorbansi dapat dihitung energi gap untuk indirect transtition bernilai 4.37-5.58 eV dan untuk direct transtition bernilai 5.30-5.71 eV. Hasil uji refraktometer menunjukkan indeks refraksi bahan MgO-SnO2 bernilai 1.642-1.653.
ABSTRACT
SnO2 is semiconductor material widely used such as in solar cell and sensors. MgO is a material widely used as absorber. Because of that fact, this research investigated optical properties of MgO-SnO2 in various calcination temperature and composition. The MgO and SnO2 were prepared and synthesized by simple mixing method. The optical properties were characterized after calcination process. The optical properties were investigated using UV-Vis Genesys 10S and refractometer Abbe. The result show the highest absorption spectrum and extinction coefficient occur at calcination temperature of 650oC while at composition MgO-SnO2 of 7:3. The absorption peak for each is 1.656 a.u and 1.959 a.u. All samples exhibit high absorbance and extinction coefficient at range of 305-340 nm. All samples have transmittance less than 55% at wavelength 200-1100 nm which impossible for MgO-SnO2 application as absorber. From the absorbance results, gap energy for indirect is 4.37-5.58 eV and for direct transtition is 5.30-5.71 eV. From refractometer measurement appeared that refraction index of MgO-SnO2 is 1.642-1.653.
