Abstract

ABSTRAK

Telah dilakukan adsorpsi methylene blue menggunakan abu sabut dan tempurung kelapa dari sisa bahan bakar pada industri tahu di Kota Malang. Abu diaktivasi menggunakan H2SO4 2%. Penentuan kondisi optimum adsorpsi methylene blue meliputi variasi waktu kontak, pH larutan, dan dosis absorben. Dalam penelitian ini juga ditentukan kapasitas adsorpsi dan isotermis adsorpsi. Abu dikarakterisasi menggunakan XRD untuk mengetahui fase silika dalam abu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kondisi optimum untuk mengadsorpsi 50 mL methylene blue 13,97 mg/L adalah waktu kontak 75 menit, pH 3, dan dosis adsorben 0,5 gram. Diperoleh kapasitas adsorpsi methylene blue sebesar 4,533 mg/g dan isotermis adsorpsi methylene blue menggunakan abu sabut dan tempurung kelapa teraktivasi H2SO4 lebih mengikuti model isotermis Freundlich dari pada isotermis Langmuir. Analisa XRD menunjukkan bahwa kristalinitas dan kemurnian silika dalam abu teraktivasi H2SO4 2% mengalami peningkatan karena hilangnya puncak dari pengotor KCl dan HNaCO3.

ABSTRACT

The research has investigated adsorption of methylene blue using coir ash and coconut shell ash that remaining fuel of tofu industry in Malang. The adsorbent was activated by H2SO4 2%. Determination of optimum conditions on the adsorption of methylene blue with variations in contact time, pH, and adsorbent doses. This research has determined of adsorption capacity and adsorption isotherm study and characterization of ash by using XRD. Result show that the adsorption of 50 mL methylene blue at concentration 13,97 mg/L in optimum condition occurs in 75 minutes contact time with pH 3 for adsorbent doses 0,5 gram. The adsorption capacity is 4,533 mg/g. The isotherm adsorption was more followed to the Freundlich model than Langmuir model. XRD result showed that crystalline and purity of silica in activated ash increase, because the peak of KCl and HNaCO3 impurities disappeared.
