Abstract

ABSTRAK

Zeolit alam Malang merupakan material mikropori yang penggunaannya selama ini kurang optimal. Modifikasi pori dari ukuran mikropori ke mesopori bertujuan agar pemanfaatan zeolit alam Malang sebagai absorben serta katalis tidak terbatas pada molekul yang berukuran kecil. Hal ini berhasil dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode dealuminasi dan penambahan surfaktan CTABr secara hidrotermal kemudian dikalsinasi.

Karakterisasi yang dilakukan antara lain XRD (X-Ray Difraction), XRF (X-Ray Fluoroscence), adsorpsi nitrogen, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope), dan FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared). Hasil karakterisasi menunjukkan kandungan sampel zeolit alam Malang adalah mineral mordenit dan klinoptilolit. Rasio Si/Al zeolit alam Malang setelah dealuminasi meningkat dari 3,84 menjadi 5,39. Zeolit hasil modifikasi memiliki ukuran pori pada daerah mesopori. Perlakuan kalsinasi yang dilakukan telah menghilangkan surfaktan dari pori zeolit. Foto SEM menunjukkan distribusi partikel dan morfologi permukaan zeolit hasil modifikasi tidak seragam.

ABSTRACT

Natural zeolite of Malang is a micropore which has not been widely used. The purpose of the modification of the pores from microporous into mesoporous is to use zeolite as the absorbent and catalyst to a wider range of molecule pores. This has been successfully conveyed using the method of dealumination and the hydrothermal addition of surfactant CTABr and its calcinations.

Characterization which has been done are: XRD, XRF, nitrogen adsorption, SEM, and FTIR. The result of the characterization is that the sample of Malang natural zeolite contains of mordenite and clinoptilolite minerals. The ratio of Si/Al of Malang natural zeolite after the dealumination increased from 3.84 to 5.39. The pores of the modified zeolite are in the range of mesoporous in size. The calcination has removed the surfactant from zeolite pores. The SEM photo showed the heterogenous result of the modification of zeolite surface in term of the distribution of its particles and morphology.
