Abstract
ABSTRAK
Lempung merupakan bahan dasar pembuatan keramik. Keberadaan lempung di Indonesia sangatlah melimpah dan digunakan sebagai bahan dasar keramik, seperti di desa Kasen dan desa Urek – Urek kecamatan Gondanglegi kabupaten Malang yang memanfaatkan lempung sebagai bahan dasar genteng dan batu bata. Untuk mengoptimalkan potensi lempung di desa tersebut maka pada penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkarakterisasi lempung daerah tersebut antaral ain meliputi menghitung PI (Plasticity Index), analisis unsur, analisis senyawa dan analisis permukaan
Metode penentuan karakterisasi lempung pada penelitian ini meliputi: metode Atterberg untuk menghitung PI (Plasticity Index), analisis unsur menggunakan XRF, analisis senyawa menggunakan XRD, dan analisis permukaan menggunakan SEM.
Berdasarkan hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Indeks plastisitas sampel lempung desa Kasen dan Urek-urek berturut-turut adalah 14,60% dan 16,14%. Komponen unsur-unsur yang terdapat pada sampel lempung desa Kasen adalah Si 37,0%, Fe (35,3%), Al (17%), Ca (4,36%), Ti (1,83%), K (1,3%), Mn ( 0,75%), Eu (0,65%), Sr (0,6%), P (0.59%), Cu (0,16%), Re dan V (0,1%), Cr (0,065%), dan Zn 0,05%. Sedangkan unsur-unsur yang terdapat pada sampel lempung desa Urek-Urek adalah unsur Fe (39,7%), Si (33,2%), Al (14%), Ca (7,79%), Ti (2,13%), Mn (0,68%), Eu (0,65%), Sr (0,51%), K (0,44%), P (0,38%), Re (0,2%), Cu (0,18%), V (0,11%), Cr (0,067%) dan Zn (0,06%). %). Karakterisasi dengan XRD menunjukkan bahwa senyawa penyusun sampel lempung desa Kasen mempunyai kandungan senyawa Iron(III) oxide (Fe2O3), silica (SiO2) dan Calcium dialuminium disilicodialuminate decaoxide dihydroxide (CaAl2(Al2Si2)O10(OH)2. Sedangkan senyawa penyusun sampel lempung desa Urek-urek adalah Anorthite, ordered (CaAl2Si2), Iron(III) oxide (Fe2O3), silica (SiO2) dan Manganese(IV) oxide (MnO2). Dari hasil SEM diketahui bahwa morfologi permukaan lempung desa Urek-urek lebih halus dibandingkan dengan morfologi permukaan lempung desa Kasen. Permukaan sampel lempung desa Kasen berwarna coklat keputih – putihan, sedangkan untuk sampel lempung desa Urek-urek berwarana coklat kemerah – merahan.
ABSTRACT
Clay is the manufacture of ceramics. The presence of clay in Indonesia is very abundant and used as a ceramic base material, such as in Kasen and Urek – Urek villages, part of Gondanglegi regency of Malang city, which use clay as a base for tile and brick. To optimize the potential of clay in those villages, in this study, the main is to characterizated the clay in those area includes calculating PI (Plasticity Index), elemental analysis, compound analysis and surface analysis.
The method of clay characterization determination in this research included: Atterberg method to calculate PI (Plasticity Index), elemental analysis using XRF, analysis of compounds using XRD, surface analysis using SEM.
Thestudy indicate that the plasticity index of clay samples Kasen and Urek-Urek villages were 14,60% and 16,14% respectively. Components of the elements contained in clay samples of Kasen village were Si 37,0%, Fe (35,3%), Al (17%), Ca (4,36%), Ti (1,83%), K (1,3%), Mn ( 0,75%), Eu (0,65%), Sr (0,6%), P (0.59%), Cu (0,16%), Re and V (0,1%), Cr (0,065%), and Zn 0,16%. while Urek-Urek village were Fe (39,7%), Si (33,2%), Al (14%), Ca (7,79%), Ti (2,13%), Mn (0,68%), Eu (0,65%), Sr (0,51%), K (0,44%), P (0,38%), Re (0,2%), Cu (0,18%), V (0,11%), Cr (0,067%) and Zn (0,06%). Characterization by XRD showed that the compounds making up the sample villages Kasen clay content of the compound has Iron(III) oxide (Fe2O3), silica (SiO2) dan Calcium dialuminium disilicodialuminate decaoxide dihydroxide (CaAl2(Al2Si2)O10(OH)2. While the sample compound constituent clay Urek-Urek village is Anorthite, ordered (CaAl2Si2), Iron(III) oxide (Fe2O3), silica (Si O2) dan Manganese(IV) oxide (MnO2). From the results of SEM surface morphology is known that clay-urek urek village finer than the clay surface morphology Kasen village. Surface samples of clay Village Kasen whitish brown, while for the clay sample villages urek reddish brown.
