Word formation process of a Social Network on Wordpress Blog

ABSTRACT

Word formation is a process of word which changes to create a new term. There are many kind of word formation namely compounding, blending, clipping, coinage, conversion, acronym, multiple process, derivation, borrowing and back formation. In linguistics, word formation is included in morphology field. Morphology is the study of forms. Morphology in linguistics has to do with the forms of the words and speaker may change the forms of words in order to expression a meaning. Every language has certain consistent patterns by which the forms of words can be adjusted to express an idea.

The study is done in order to find out the types of how word formation used on wordpress blog. It has also done to get new information of word formations which are used on wordpress blog.

The writer used descriptive qualitative research as the design of this study. The data which were taken from http://wordpress.com/. After the data were collected, the writer selected the words and phrases which were included in word formation. Then, the writer described the words or phrases one by one based on the types. Next, the writer also gave information of the function the terms. After that, the writer answered the question in focus of the study and the last step, making conclusion after the data are found and discussed are presented.

Based on the result and discussion of the data, the writer found that word formation processes used on wordpress blog are compounding, blending, clipping, coinage, conversion, acronym, multiple processes and derivation. Only one coinage term found word formation on wordpress blog and the most type were derivation.

This study proposed the suggestion for next researchers that can give more complete and detail data and also they should use other theories to compare this study and teacher that can take this study becomes additional data for teaching.

ABSTRAK

Word formation adalah proses perubahan kata-kata untuk membentuk istilah-istilah baru. Ada beberapa macam word formation, diantaranya adalah: compounding, blending, clipping, coinage, conversion, acronym, multiple process, derivation, borrowing dan back formation. Pada bidang linguistik word formation termasuk bidang morfologi, yaitu studi mengenai pembentukan kata yang bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan sebuah ekspresi. Dan setiap bahasa memiliki pola-pola tertentu dalam pembentukan kata yang digunakan untuk mengungkapkan ide atau gagasan.

Penelitian ini dilakukan bertujuan untuk mengetahui tipe-tipe word formation yang digunakan pada wordpress blog. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga digunakan untuk mendapatkan informasi dan pengetahuan baru tentang pembentukan kata pada wordpress blog.

Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif yang mana data diambil dari http://wordpress.com/. Setelah data terkumpul, peneliti memilih kata-kata dan frasa yang termasuk dalam wordformation. Kemudian, peneliti mendeskripsikannya berdasarkan masing-masing tipe dan memberikan penjelasan tentang fungsi masing-masing kata. Selanjutnya peneliti menjawab keseluruhan permasalahan dalam rumusan masalah dan membuat kesimpulan dari data-data yang telah ditemukan dan didiskusikan.

Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah keseluruhan tipe word formation dapat ditemukan pada wordpress blog, seperti: compounding, blending, clipping, coinage, conversion, acronym, multiple processes dan derivation. Tipe yang paling sering digunakan adalah derivation, sedangkan yang paling jarang digunakan adalah coinage.

Selanjutnya peneliti berharap agar peneliti yang akan datang mampu memberikan saran dan perbaikan dalam penelitian ini dan menggunakan teori- teori yang lain sebagai perbandingan. Peneliti juga berharap agar penelitian ini bisa digunakan sebagai informasi tambahan dalam pengajaran.
