Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research analyzes the receptive language disorder of an autistic character in The Lost Prince movie. Receptive language disorder is a condition when someone who suffers language disorder may have difficulties in understanding the utterances said by the others. It may occur in someone who suffers from autism. Then, autism is a condition of a person since birth or during infancy, which makes him unable to form social interactions or communications like the other normal human being.
This study uses descriptive qualitative design. It is to describe the kinds of receptive language disorder and the kinds of utterances are found difficult to comprehend by an autistic character in The Lost Prince movie. In addition, the data of this study are in the forms of sentences. To collect the data there are some steps done in this study: watching, transcribing the script, downloading the script of the movie and comparing it with the data, collecting and selecting data, and organizing the data. The data are analyzed by using receptive language disorder theory proposed by Schank (1977).
Based on the finding of this study, there are for kinds of receptive language disorde found in Johnnie (the autistic character), namely Absurd Response (AR), Odd Response (OR), Relevant but not very polite response (RnP), and Marginal relevant response (MR). The most common response that occurs in Johnnie is AR. Then, the most common utterances which are found difficult to comprehend is instruction.
Finally, after finishing this study, the researcher has some suggestions concerning to the topic of receptive language disorder of an autistic people. To the other people who speak with autistic people must be patient. Everyone who communicates with them should use words that familiar and easy to be understood.
