Abstract
ABSTRACT
Language has two functions in communication. First, language is linguistically considered as a means to express systems both in spoken and written. Second, language is non-linguistically used to interact among people to express their ideas, thoughts, feelings etc.Language its self has two aspects namely linguistic and literary aspects. Linguistic aspects include morphology, phonology, lexicology, semiotics, syntax, sociolinguistics etc. On the other side, poetry, prose and drama are branches of the literary aspects of language..
We often get combination of two words that produce new meaning. The meaning of each word will vanish and as result of combination of the words there is a new meaning. That is what we call as compound word. And it is one of morphological processes.
This research will analyze morphological processes, especially English compound words on English magazine, namely Kang Guru Radio English. How are compound words found in KGRE magazine formed? What are kinds of compound words found in KGRE magazine? To answer the research problem, the writer adopts a various perspectives on the Morphology, Word formation, and compound word. Methodologically, the writer used the descriptive qualitative to conduct this research. For collecting the data, all the text of the magazines are read to find out the compound words. Then, the data are arranged systematically in accordance with the problems of the study.
To analyze the data, the writer, first, presented various compound words found in KGRE magazine; second, he composed the construction of the compound words according to the rules. Then described the part of speech after they are combined. After that given the meaning of the individual word after they are combined (compound words). Presenting compound words in sentence. Drawing conclusion based on the data analysis.
After analyzing the data, this study concludes that there are four forms of compound words found in KGRE magazine, they are: Compound Noun, Compound Verb, Compound Adjectives, and Compound Adverb. The combination of Noun + Noun can produce not only compound noun but also compound adjective and compound adverb. In KGRE magazine found all of the writing system of compound words, they are using space, without space, and using mark (-). In KGRE magazine found endocentric and exocentric compound but not copulative and appositional compound.
Some suggestions dealing with the use of English compound words found in KGRE magazine are made firstly; the results of this study are useful for the readers to increase their understanding about compound words especially about the meaning, as they often have different meaning from words in isolation. It is also hoped that the results of this study will be useful to other researchers to give preliminary ideas about compound words and aspects related such as morphology.
The results of this research is still far from being perfect, so it is suggested for the readers to give some constructive criticisms and suggestions to make it better.
