Abstract
ABSTRACT
A Room with A View novel is the representation of women condition in Edwardian era. In A Room with A View Lucy Honeychruch as women females character as muddle British’s women at that time. This study tries to analyze about women oppression in Edwardian Era. The term of oppression in this study is different from the definition of oppression in common. In this study the term of oppression is related to the women’s oppress by the society and economic. That’s why the researcher uses feminist Marxism to analyze the novel.
Concerning to the topic which rise in A Room with A View that is Lucy Honeychruch struggle against the oppression, the researcher curious to know what is the oppression faced by Lucy. Therefore for the purpose, this thesis is conducted to find out those questions. Hence, the discussion will find out the kinds of oppression faced, the cause of oppression and Lucy’s struggle against the oppression towards the society and her selves.
This analysis used feminist literary criticism, because it is to describe the women’s struggle against the oppression, A Room with A View is very short novel but the writer include a lot of allusion and the reader have to guest the meaning of the allusion. To make it clear researcher makes three kinds of research formula those are, what kinds of oppression faced by Lucy HoneyChurch, The aspects that influence Lucy to struggle against the oppression and her way to struggles against the oppression.
After conducting the analysis researcher discovered kinds of oppression faced by Lucy’s are sexism and classism. Aspects influences Lucy to struggle against the oppression are the women image in Edwardian Era and Lucy Honey church as middle class women. To close the discussion will cover several discussions that is the way Lucy struggle against the Oppression those are She tries to learn the meaning of life from her journey and she changes her attitude after return from her journey.
