Abstract
ABSTRACT
Language disorder is the inability of autistic character communicates due to having problem in communication in the form of verbal communication. Specifically, this study focused on the part of receptive language disorder which is describe as the problem of verbal communication and inability to understand utterance to make communication with other. This phenomenon faced in The Boy Who Could Fly movie. This study investigates about the types of receptive language disorder and its experiences of the autistic in The Boy Who Could Fly movie.
Descriptive qualitative is the design used in this study. It is to describe the experience of non verbal language especially receptive language disorder. Moreover, the data are in the forms of dialogue. For doing analysis, the researcher is doing some step. They are, watch the movie, read the script, highlights the conversations which belong to receptive language disorder, and the last selects the highlighted conversation to be classified and arranged into five types of receptive language disorder based on the Schank’s theory.
As the result, this study shows that Eric as the autistic character of The Boy Who Could Fly movie experiences four types of receptive language disorder. They are absurd response, odd response, more relevant but not very polite response, and marginal relevant response. Then, phenomena of receptive language disorder happen to Eric when he experienced the conversation with Emily ad Mrs. Sherman, then when he are in unusual situation such as feeling disappointed, worried, and disturb.
Finally, the researcher suggests to the next researcher who conduct in the same field to explore more about the elements of the receptive language disorder and give deeper crosscheck about the real subject of receptive language children in autistic spectrum disorder to make the next researcher have more depth exploration about the research.
