Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study examines intimate language as it is used by the characters in Camp Rock movie. The main aims of this study are (1) to identify kinds of intimate languages used by the characters, and (2) to find out the purposes of intimate language used by the characters in Camp Rock.

This study employs theory proposed by Joos’ and Hymes to help analyze the data. Descriptive qualitative approach is applied. To analyze the data, several steps are taken: (1) watching the movie to observe the language, (2) finding the scripts of the movie to get valid data, (3) taking the dialogue concerning the intimate language and presenting them in data analysis, (4) displaying the data and (5) analyzing them.

There are 18 data found concerning with intimate language: intimate addressee and intimate expressions. The purpose of using them are because they have intimate relationship and almost all of them use intimate language to express the intimacy between them, express the anger, and to show the affections.

This study suggests for the next researcher to do relevant topic but different subjects, so that various results of study related to the use of intimate language or expressions are available.
