Abstract
ABSTRACT
Newspaper is still found everywhere whether read in print or online. The language choice used in newspaper is an important thing in order to achieve a better reader’s understanding. From the language of newspaper, sometimes there is language that make the woman is discriminated or advocated. Because of this phenomenon, the researcher uses inclusion strategies that makes the woman position is known. The Jakarta Post Newspaper is chosen as the object because there are many inclusion strategies used.
To answer the research question, the researcher uses Leeuwen’s theory (2008) to identify and analyze of inclusion strategies on women issues in the jakarta post crime news. In conducting this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative as research design and the data were collected by coding and identifying the sentence that contain inclusion strategies. The findings reveal that there are kinds of inclusion’s type in the Jakarta Post, such as: genericisation, specification, assimilation, indetermination, determination, nomination, categorisation that is divided into functionalisation and identification, personalisation, then objectivation that is included in type of impersonalisation. Most of all this type in this study shows that the Jakarta Post advocates the woman as the victim. The dominant type is identification. The Jakarta Post often shows the definition of the woman, whether it connects with her family, ethnicity, and etc. It happens because the Jakarta Post want to attract the readers that has the same ethnicity, who know the family, and others.
Based on the result of this research, the researcher hoped to all people who interested in this area to examine other contexts in different object, such as movie, advertisement, songs, and others.
