This study explains how the main actors’ identity based on personal identity and social identity. It helps to define and are subsumed the main actors’ identity. And in this study, the researcher formulates a focus of study how the identity(s) are represented by the main actors in this movie.
To answer the problem, the researcher uses Blommaert theory to identify and analyze what identity (s) which represented by main actors in this movie. In conducting this study, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative as research design and the data were collected by watching and transcribing the script to find out the aspects of the main actors’ identity in this movie.
The findings reveal that the main actors’ identity can be identified into personal and social, such as Nick’s identity is a good police who can be relied with others. Therefore, he is angry when Proctor called him a dirty cop. It means that Nick really understand who he is. That’s personal identity. Person should know who they are to negotiate and prove their identity to others that they are not look like what other thinks. Personal identity related to society to recognize by others. Therefore, it is normal that many people have multiple identities in their life. Yet, the multiple identities represented by main actors in this movie are different from others. It means they have really distinct personalities, they change being spontaneously depends on situation and condition.
Based on the findings mentioned above, the researcher concludes that the main actors’ identity can be classified into personal and social identity; such identity can be seen from semiotic of language which represented to person’s identity. Besides, identity also can be seen from the attribute, the way person speaks which reflected their space and their place. Further, the researcher suggests that this study can be used as a reference for the next researchers in conducting the similar research in the same field or can be applied as an example in the classroom for the teacher who teaches identity.
