Abstract
ABSTRACT
Critical Linguistics or Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) is a type of Discourse Analysis focuses on the connection between the uses of language. The analysis includes the use of language in politics and social incident. In Critical Discourse Analysis the study was started and played around at the assumption of the use of language. This thesis is an attempt to explain the research problems of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono(SBY), as the president of Indonesia, in using the kinds of strategy of political language speeches. The researcher investigates language strategy used on President SBY’s speech and how expressions influence the ideology and power.
To answer the problems, the researcher adopts Theo van Leeuwen for analyzing the political language delivered by President SBY. The researcher, then, focuses on the strategy, how the language constructs and is constructed by social relationship. Methodologically, the researcher employs descriptive qualitative study as the research design. The data were collected by analyzing and classifying the strategy of political language to find out the aspects of discourse.
The findings reveal that President SBY certainly used the exact word to interpret politician’s ideas. He used the strategy to impose the audience. He used the strategy from two aspects of “exclusion” and “inclusion”. The strategy used are abstraction, assimilation and nominalization. President SBY’s speech used many kinds of word strategy to give the pressure at the audience feeling. The president always used the language ideology and power to extend the purpose of speech. Nevertheless, he was still aware undeniable that language should combine to serve the information inasmuch, the important tool of speaking is the communicative language.
The researcher suggests the next researchers to study more deeply and more focus, especially to analyses the facial expression and the voice level that used by the politician when they speak at the public community inasmuch, it will be better and will provide more tangible descriptive knowledge of political area.
