The strategies of teachers to solve the learning problems of social science subjects at XI-Social Grades at SMAN 8 Malang

ABSTRACT

Teacher strategy is an teacher’s decision acting to maximize the available skills and educational resources to achieve the learning objectives through effective relationship between the environment and the most favorable conditions. Learning problems is the students’ problems during the teaching learning process at the school that can be the obstacle to understand or receive the material that given by the teachers. The learning problems always appear during the teaching learning process. To reach the goal of teaching and learning process, the teachers have to minimize or solve the learning problems of the students by making strategies during the teaching learning process.

The objectives of the research are: (1) to identify the learning problems of social science subjects at XI-Social grades at SMAN 8 Malang, (2) to explore the internal and external factors of learning problems of social science subjects at XI- Social grades at SMAN 8 Malang, (3) to describe the strategies of Teachers to solve the learning problems of social science subjects at XI-Social grades at SMAN 8 Malang.

To reach all of the objectives of the research, this research use qualitative research method by descriptive qualitative approach. The main instrument is the researcher. And the techniques that used are observation, interview, and documentation. For analysis the data, the researcher use data reduction of the didn’t relevant data, presentation of data, and conclusion withdrawal.

The result of the research shows that, (1) the learning problems experienced by the students of social science subjects at XI-Social grades at SMAN 8 Malang are behavioural inappropriateness (BI), low achievement, lack of motivation, and escape from learning time. (2) there are two kinds of factors of learning problems of social science subjects at XI-Social grades at SMAN 8 Malang, those are internal and external factors, namely; (a) internal problems are students less confidence and students have wrong perception of social science subjects (b) external factors are teaching styles and students’ environments, the students environments divided into two environments; family environment and the neighborhood/community. (3) To solve the students’ learning problems of social science subjects at XI-Social grades at SMAN 8 Malang, teachers have two main approaches strategies. Those are teachers oriented and students oriented. Students’ oriented approaches contains of communication, physical treatment, and active learning. Then for teachers oriented approaches are teachers be humorous, using interactive media, then contextualize current style approach.

Strategi guru adalah sebuah keputusan guru untuk memaksimalkan kemampuan dan sumber daya pendidikan untuk mencapai tujuan belajar melalui hubungan yang efektif antara lingkungan dan kondisi yang menyenangkan. Masalah belajar adalah masalah-masalah siswa dalam proses belajar di sekolah yang bisa menjadi penghalang untuk memahami atau menerima materi yang diberikan oleh guru. Masalah belajar selalu muncul selama proses belajar mengajar. Untuk mencapai tujuan dari proses belajar mengajar, guru harus meminimalisir atau mengatasi masalah belajar siswa dengan menggunakan strategi-strategi selama proses belajar mengajar.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) untuk mengidentifikasi masalah- masalah belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS pada kelas XI-IS di SMAN 8 Malang, (2) untuk menjelaskan faktor-faktor internal dan eksternal dari masalah belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS pada kelas XI-IS di SMAN 8 Malang, (3) untuk menjelaskan strategi-strategi guru untuk mengatasi masalah belajar mata pelajaran IPS pada kelas XI-IS di SMAN 8 Malang.

Untuk mendapatkan semua tujuan dari penelitian ini, penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Instrumen utama adalah peneliti itu sendiri. Dan tekhnik yang digunakan oleh peneliti adalah observasi, interview, dan dokumentasi. Untuk menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan reduksi data dari data yang tidak relevan, penjelasan data, dan pengambilan kesimpulan.

Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa, (1) masalah belajar yang dialami oleh siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS pada kelas XI-IS di SMAN 8 Malang adalah ketidaksesuaian perilaku, prestasi rendah, kurang motivasi, dan tidak mengikuti jam pelajaran. (2) ada dua macam faktor yang mempengaruhi masalah belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS pada kelas XI-IS di SMAN 8 Malang, adalah; (a) masalah internal adalah siswa kurang percaya diri dan siswa memiliki persepsi salah tentang mata pelajaran IPS. (b) beberapa eksternal faktor adalah gaya pengajaran dan lingkungan siswa, lingkungan siswa terdiri dari dua hal, yakni lingkungan keluarga dan komunitas. (3) untuk meminimalisir masalah belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS pada kelas XI-IS di SMAN 8 Malang, guru memiliki dua strategi pendekatan, pertama adalah pendekatan yang berorientasi pada kondisi siswa, yang mencakup berkomunikasi, perlakuan fisik, dan pembelajaran aktif. Kemudian pendekatan kedua adalah berorientasi pada guru, dengan cara guru menjadi humoris, menggunakan media interaktif, dan menggunakan gaya terkini dalam mengajar.
