Abstract
ABSTRACT
My Sister Keeper is one of the novel written by Jodi Picoult explored the problem of family. Anna as a major character is in the difficult position, she begins to think about herself when she was thirteen why she should being a donor for Kate, her sister that diagnosed leukemia—blood cancer and bone marrow, for a long time. This novel tells us about teenager and also mother’s dilemma.
On the other hand, Sara as a mother wants her daughter Kate saves, that way she and Brian, her husband, try to make programmed baby because Kate need a perfect match donor for her health. This problem arises more complicated when Anna sues Sara by filing the lawsuit to the court for her medical emancipation and Kate needs a kidney for her health. The message in Picoult’s My Sister’s Keeper novel is never give up. Every human being has problems or dilemma in this life, but every problem is solution.
Thus, this study is aimed to describe how do Anna’s and Sara’s id, ego and superego function in psychological dilemma they undergo in Jodi Picoult’s My Sister’s Keeper Then, to achieve the problem of the study, the researcher use psychoanalysis literary criticism as one method of this research. Moreover, the data of this research are collected from Jodi Picoult’s My Sister Keeper.
Based on the researcher’s analysis, the id, ego and superego of both Anna and Sara take the place in every decision they have made, there are many data that supported this statement. Moreover, the drive of their id and the moral compass of their superego influent them to take one action consciously of their ego in building their personality over the whole story in the novel. In addition, the conflict of the id, ego and superego also happened in their psyche. The id which is guided by pleasure principles, the ego guided by reality principle, and superego guided by morality principle have important roles in establishment of Anna’s and Sara's psychological dilemma.

My Sister’s Keeper adalah salah satu novel karya Jodi Picoult yang menggambarkan masalah keluarga. Sebagai tokoh utama Anna berada pada posisi yang sulit, diusianya yang ke tiga belas tahun, dia mulai berpikir tentang jati dirinya, kenapa selama ini dia harus menjadi donor untuk Kate, kakaknya yang menderita Leukimiakanker darah and tulang sumsum. Novel ini menggambarkan tantang masalah remaja dan juga dilema seorang ibu.
Disisi lain, Sara sebagai ibu dari Kate dan Anna, karena Kate memerlukan donor yang setiap selnya harus sama persis dengan Kate, Sara dan Brian, suaminya, melakukan bayi program untuk menyelamatkan Kate. Masalah keluarga ini semakin konflik ketika Anna sang bayi program menuntut ibunya untuk hak medis sementara Kate memerlukan donor ginjal. “Jangan Menyerah” adalah pesan yang disampaikan Picoult dalam My Sister’s Keeper. Setiap Manusia punya problema, tapi setiap problema pasti ada solusinya.
Studi ini menjelaskan bagaimana peranan id, ego, dan superego Anna dan Sara dalam dilema psychologis yang mereka alami dalam novel jodi picoult My Sister’s Keeper. Dan untuk menjawab pertanyaan tersebut, peneliti memakai methode psychoanalysis literary criticism dalam menganalisis skripsi ini. Jadi, Jodi Picoult My Sister’s Keeper menjadi sumber data analisis skripsi ini.
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, id, ego dan superego Anna dan Sara mengambil banyak peranan dalam keputusan yang mereka ambil, dan ada banyak data dalam srkipsi ini yang sebagai bukti pernyataan tersebut. Dan juge, bagaimana pengedalian ‘id’ dan kompas moral ‘superego’ mempengaruhi Anna dan Sara dalam bertindak, peran ‘ego’ yang membangun kepribadian pemeran utama novel ini. Kemudian konflik dari id, ego dan superego yang terjadi dalam diri mereka. Id yang berprinsip kesenangan, ego yang berprinsip realita, dan superego yang berprinsip moralitas mempunyai peranan penting dalam Anna dan Sara menghadapi dilema psychologis.
