Lexical stylistics analysis in Dark Shadows Movie

ABSTRACT

Lexical stylistics is part of expressive means in stylistic. Stylistics is one of language style which study about expressive means and stylistic devices. Lexical stylistics is part of expressive means in stylistic. People use lexical stylistics to make the hearer a nice sense of imagery; also it can be intriguing to the hearer. It is mostly important because it portrays people’s emotions more acutely than in a literal situation which subsequently helps the reader find out more about the said person.

This study aims at analyzing lexical stylistics in dark shadows movie that was delivered by all characters. Based on the background, this study is conducted to answer the problems of study, the types of lexical stylistics used in “Dark Shadows” movie and how are lexical stylistics used in the “Dark Shadows” movie.

This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method based on Galperin (1971) theory, since the data of the movie is in the form of script news that makes the researcher does not give treatments. The findings showed that all types of lexical stylistics are found in the Dark Shadows movie. There are metaphor, Metonymy and irony and the use lexical stylistic in Dark Shadows movie to explain or to show to the hearer the intended meaning from the speaker.
