Abstract
ABSTRACT
In communication, human beings always use language to communicate each other since it is a fundamental instrument of communication. Besides as the instrument to communicate with others, language is also as a tool in establishing and maintaining relationship with others. Consequently, the role of brain is very important in this survival, therefore, damage in part of brain will experience some diseases such as disorder in producing and comprehending language. Language disorder is the impaired comprehension and/or the use of spoken and written language necessary for expressing and understanding thoughts and ideas.
This study is aimed to find out how the dysphasic character experiences language. Therefore, this study focuses on the language loss including the cause, effects and treatment of loss the dysphasic character’s English in Fluent Dysphasia movie.
This study uses descriptive qualitative method that emphasizes on specific case of language disorder occurred to the dysphasic character in Fluent Dysphasia movie. Therefore, it is interesting to observe this character in order to find out the language loss, its cause, the effects and treatments. Furthermore, the data are analyzed descriptively to explain in detail the phenomena of dysphasia.
The result of this study shows that Michael in the Fluent Dysphasia movie suffers dysphasia because of brain damage, the consequence of drinking alcohol that affects in his brain then the language. The effects which are experienced by
Michael are difficulty in understanding and talking with other people who speak English, his first language. Besides, he also does therapy by doing speech and language therapy.
Finally, after finishing this study the researcher has some suggestions to the readers and the next researchers who are interested in this study related to this topic. The readers tends to be aware that dysphasic people are not impaired in their intelligence but in their language. The next researchers who are interested in it, they should be deeply in observing and analyzing about dysphasia. They also should use broader perspective to enrich the result of the analysis.
