Abstract
ABSTRACT
Language is a means to communicate to other people in the world. However, sometimes people cannot avoid interjection in their conversation which is mostly produced functionally.
Furthermore, this research deals with interjections used by the characters of the Camp Rock film. The functions of interjections found in different context are analyzed on this research. Then, how those interjections uttered become the last formulated problems. To answer those problems, the researcher used Karin’s theory of interjection to be the main reference in analyzing the data. Besides, this research is limited in interjection of ‘oh’ and ‘ah’ since people assume that both of interjections are the most commonly used in the conversation. So far, there are a few researchers that analyze in the same concern as this research, discourse analysis on spontaneous interjection. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative because the data are collected in the form of utterances which are uttered by the characters of Camp Rock Film and the analysis is represented in the form of words.
As the finding of the study, the researcher concludes that there are 23 interjections of ‘oh’ and ‘ah’ produced by the characters on Camp Rock film and the data analyzed to each functions. Most of interjections are produced in different numbers. Those involve as a signal of surprise, to respond an event, to answer a question, as follow up, arriving at a realization, as a clarification, as assertion and emphasis, as reaction or objection, as evaluation, as acceptance, as endorsement, and as a qualification. The most commonly used is the interjection which is functioned as an evaluation and an acceptance. Furthermore, the characters who often used interjection are Mitchie and Caitlyn which is inserted in their conversations.
Finally, the researcher suggests to the next researcher that they can investigate the spontaneous interjection not only ‘oh’ and ‘ah’ because there are many other interjections which are used in the conversation. The researcher also suggests that it can be investigated in the real communication or conversational interaction so that we can find out other functions of interjection that possibly used in the daily conversation.
