Abstract
ABSTRACT
Persuasion is an important aspect of communication that is used in many areas. It is an art of communication process to persuade others using stimuli to get the response from listeners. One of the areas that needs persuasion is religious speech or preach. It is a channel that uses persuasive language to persuade the religion’s member to defend their belief.
Concerning to the topic, this study focuses on the use of persuasive tactics, especially repetition tactic in religious speech. This study took this topic because it is intended to investigate about the figures and functions of figures of repetition tactics which are used in religious speech or preach.
This research is conducted by using descriptive qualitative method because the data of this research are in the forms of utterances or speech, which were not statistically analyzed and described the phenomena of the study. In this case, this study also uses discourse analysis to analyze the data because the researcher needs to understand the text and also the context as well in analysis to know what the meaning behind the phenomena is. The data were taken from the speech or utterances of the preacher’s preach in Australia. The data were analyzed through the observation done by the researcher herself.
It is found that in order to influence Muslim in Australia, Sheikh Feiz Ahmad, a preacher, used anadiplosis, exact repetition, anaphora, ephipora, synonymy, climax, isocolon, and homoioteleuton figures of repetition tactic in order to highlight the material being presented, be an aid to make the listeners understand about the material being presented, prepare the difficult act, call for the listener’s attention, and start and close any communication or topic. All of the functions are used by the preacher as a tactic in order to make the listeners aware and the material being presented is understood easily.
This study clearly shows that repetition tactic of persuasion also used in religious preach and based on this reason the other religious preachers are suggested to use the repetition tactic which has many functions, one of which is preach in natural way. Then, the listeners will act what the preacher present in his preach is unconsciously.
