Abstract
ABSTRACT
Language is a perfect tool of communication and the form of human communication is conversation. It is known that human beings spend a large part of their lives engaging in conversation. Sudaryanto (1990) suggests that where there is society, there is language. It can say that every society’s activities need language for communication, which is called conversation. However, in conversation, sometimes people use utterances that grammatically have no connection with the previous or those followed sentences. They use it to express their feeling or performing a certain sense which is called interjection (O’ Connel,
2008).
This research examines interjection as it is used by the main character in Kung Fu Panda movie. The main aims of this research are: to identify kinds of interjection used by the main character, and to find out the used of interjection of Kung Fu Panda movie.
This research employs theory proposed by Ameka (1992) to analyze the data and descriptive qualitative is applied as the research method. To analyze the data, several steps were taken: (1) watching the movie to observe the language, (2) finding the scripts of the movie to get valid data, (3) taking the dialogue concerning the use of interjection and presenting them in data analysis, (4) displaying the data, and (5) analyzing them.
There are 12 data found concerning with the use of interjection, namely what?!, huh?, uh, yeah haha, no ohhh, hey, whoa, umm, oh okay, uh yeah- yeah, eaghhh and what. Those interjections are used to express some emotions like hesitation, pain, shock, surprise, happy, and so on. The findings show that the various meaning of interjection is based on the context of time and situation. Moreover, face expression and intonation used by the speaker can also influence the meaning of interjection.
This research suggests for the next researcher to do relevant topic but different subjects, or language so that various results of research related to the use of interjections are available.
