Abstract
ABSTRACT
As social person, human being use language as a means of interaction in their similar speech community. We realized that slips of the tongue is said to have occurred when the speakers actual utterance differs from the intended utterance. The researcher focused on types of slips of the tongue and descriptions how slips of the tongue happened on the speaking class at Fantastic English for Better Malang.
The descriptive qualitative research design is used in this study. The data were collected from the utterances (speech) of the speaking class at Fantastic English for Better Malang focused on June 15th to July 15th 2009. They were analyzed by using the following steps: presenting, identifying, arranging, describing and discussing, finally making general conclusion. The key instrument is the researcher her self; here the researcher used field note to collect and write the data that she got.
The data analysis revealed some findings covering the formulated research problem. First, the typed of slips of the tongue happened on the speaking class at Fantastic English for Better Malang. The researcher found twenty four slips of the tongue, from those utterances the researcher found six types of tongue-slips. Here are: anticipations, blends/haplologies, misderivations/shifts, substitutions, additions, and deletions.
Second, the descriptions of slips of the tongue happened on the speaking class at Fantastic English for Better Malang. After having investigation the researcher found that slips of the tongue completely happened on the speaking class at Fantastic English for Better Malang. Five deletions of utterances are found in slips of the tongue, two anticipations of utterances are found in slips of the tongue, nine substitutions of utterances are found in slips of the tongue, fourth addition of utterances are found in slip of the tongue, two blend of utterances are found in slip of the tongue, three misderivation of utterances are found in slips of the tongue. So, substitution became dominant because it frequently appeared, whereas anticipation, blends and misderivation were rarely found in this study.
Finally, from the results of the studies, the researcher implied that slips of the tongue in Fantastic English for Better Malang always occur in daily activity. And the students of Fantastic English for Better Malang often do wrong pronunciation when they are speaking English.
