Abstract
ABSTRACT
As it is known, in society, women are often discriminated and called by the second creature because of the different biological appearance from men. This discrimination makes women restricted in getting their rights in the society life such as the right for the education and job. Sydney Sheldon’s Nothing Last Forever is the novel which tells about the discriminations experienced by Paige Taylor, Kat Hunter and Honey Taft in the novel and also their struggles against these discriminations which happened to them because of their identity as women.
This research has two problems of study, they are (1) What are the discriminations experienced by Paige Taylor, Kat Hunter and Honey Taft in Sydney Sheldon’s Nothing Last Forever? (2) What are the struggles done by Paige Taylor, Kat Hunter and Honey Taft to get equal right in Sydney Sheldon’s Nothing Last Forever? In this research, the researcher analyzes the novel to find the answer of these two problems of study.
This research uses the feminist literary criticism. Here, the concept of liberal feminism which involves the discussion to the concept of women and their rights to have the opportunities in getting educations and jobs is applied. The main thrust of liberal feminism is that women are also can apply their role in society successfully like the men did. Liberal feminism assumes that all human being, men and women are created in equal right and compatible in every line of interaction.
From this research, there are two findings that can be stated as the answer of the problem of the study. First, the discriminations experienced by Paige Taylor, Kat Hunter and Honey Taft in Sydney Sheldon’s Nothing Last Forever, they are the discrimination in getting education in the medical school, the discrimination in having good hospital as their work places, the discrimination in getting acknowledgment as professional doctor, the discrimination in getting hospital facilities and sexual harassment. From those discriminations, they had done some struggle to get their rights. Their struggles are proving their ability in medico school and also in hospital, keeping their existence as women doctors in Embarcadero County Hospital, and striving the sexual harassments came from other doctors and men patient by making girl’s networks and acting as independent people who are not only keep silence to be the object of sexual harassment but they fight those bad treatment.
