Abstract
ABSTRACT
In the word formation study, some words from the foreign languages have probabilities to become the part of English vocabulary. There are some ways of word formation process namely; coinage, borrowing, compounding, blending, clipping, back formation, conversion, acronyms, derivation and inflection, and antonomasia. In linguistics, word formation is included in morphology field. Morphology is the branch of linguistics that studies patterns of word-formation within and across languages, and attempts to formulate rules that model the knowledge of the speakers of those languages (Anderson, 1992:24). Related to the background of the study, this study aims to answer two following questions. The first what kinds of word formation processes are found in Microsoft word 2007 and the second is how are word formation processes used in Microsoft word 2007.
This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method, because the data of this study were in the form of terms in Microsoft word 2007. The steps of data collection were reading and understanding the terms in Microsoft word 2007. Then, the writer selected the data that are related to the problems of the study. At last, the data were arranged systematically in accordance to the problems of the study. To analyze the data, he presented the data, interpreted the data and drew the conclusion.
Based on the result and discussion of the data, it can be concluded that the Word formation processes that found in Microsoft Word 2007™ program are: inflectional affix, derivational affix, compounding, multiple processes, blending, and borrowing. The numbers of each process are as follows: inflection: 38 and followed by derivation: 16, and then compounding: 15, multiple processes: 3, blending: 2, and borrowing: 2. in conclusion, the word formation process that mostly used in Microsoft word 2007™ program is Inflectional Affix.
The writer also concluded that the changes of the terms that have the word formation processes in Microsoft Word 2007 were not a significant changes, it was proved by the result of analyzing which showed that inflectional affix (word formation process that never change the part of speech of the base morpheme to which they are attached to complete words) becomes the dominant process. The researcher hopes that this study can give a contribution for the readers, especially the students who are interested in Morphology study. Furthermore, it is suggested for the future researchers who conduct the similar topic, to have more complete data and discussion.
