Abstract
ABSTRAK
Industri jasa telah mendominasi perekonomian hampir semua Negara industri, dan bahkan mampu menciptakan lapangan kerja dan meningkatkan PDB, lebih dari 50% pekerjaan di Inggris didominasi sektor jasa. Faktor utama yang membedakan perusahaan-perusahaan jasa adalah kualitas pelayanan. Para pelanggan semakin piawai dalam permintaan mereka dan semakin menuntut standar layanan yang lebih tinggi (Arief, 2007:1-179). Untuk itulah, peningkatan kinerja karyawan sangat diperlukan untuk dapat mewujudkan permintaan pelanggan. Kinerja yang dihasilkan efektif atau tidak, tergantung dari karakteristik masing-masing individu karena salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi kinerja karyawan adalah karakteristik karyawan (person characteristic).Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peranan variabel karakteristik individu dalam peningkatan kinerja karyawan perusahaan PT. TIKI JNE (Jalur Nugraha Ekakurir) cabang Malang.
Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif dengan pendekatan eksplanasi. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah simple random sampling (penarikan acak secara sederhana). Teknik pengumpulan data salah satunya dengan kuesioner, dimana kuesioner disebarkan kepada 34 karyawan PT. TIKI JNE cabang Malang. Kinerja merupakan variabel dependent (Y), sedangkan variabel independent adalah karakteristik individu yang meliputi usia (X1), jenis kelamin (X2), status nikah (X3), pendidikan (X4), masa kerja (X5), jumlah tanggungan (X6), kemampuan (X7), kepribadian (X8), sikap (X9), dan kepuasan kerja (X10). Instrumen-instrumen yang ada dalam kuesioner diuji terlebih dahulu menggunakan Cronbach Alpha. Analisis data menggunakan metode deskriptif dan kuantitatif. Metode deskriptif menggunakan crosstab (tabulasi silang) dimana tiap variabel dianalisis secara silang. Sedangkan metode kuantitatif menggunakan analisis diskriminan model stepwise karena variabel dependent merupakan variabel kategorikal dan analisis korelasi kanonikal.
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat tiga variabel independent yang mempunyai peranan penting (signifikan) dalam peningkatan kinerja karyawan PT. TIKI JNE cabang Malang, yaitu variabel kepribadian (0,548), sikap (0,433), dan kemampuan (-0,315). Sedangkan variabel usia, jenis kelamin, status nikah, pendidikan terakhir, masa kerja, jumlah tanggungan, dan kepuasan kerja tidak mempunyai peranan dalam peningkatan kinerja karyawan PT. TIKI JNE cabang Malang karena hasil analisis yang diperoleh tidak signifikan. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan, untuk dapat meningkatkan kinerja karyawan hendaknya memperhatikan kepribadian, sikap, dan kemampuan karyawan dengan posisi yang akan diduduki.
ABSTRACT
Nowdays service companies have been dominating most of the economy of industrial country. They can create a job opportunities and increase PDB. The fact is that more than 50% of employment in England is dominated by the sector of service company. The main factor differentiating the service companies to others is the service quality. The customers become smarter in their orders and have more demand for the higher standard of the service (Arief, 2007:1-179). Thus, efficiency of the output is greatly needed in order to be able to fulfil the customers’ order. The efficiency of the output means that the employees can produce the output fitting to standard of the time given by the company. Whether the output is effective or not depends on each of the individual characteristics. It is because one of the factors influencing the output of employee is the employee characteristic (personal characteristic). The purpose of this study is examine the role of the individual characteristic variable in the improvement of output of the company found in PT. TIKI JNE (Jalur Nugraha Ekakurir) Malang Branch.
This study uses the quantitative method with an explanation approach. The technique applied in getting the sample is by using a simple random sampling. One of techniques to collect the data is by using Questionnaire, which is distributed to thirty-four employees of PT. TIKI JNE Malang Branch. The efficiency of the output is a dependent variable (Y), while an independent variable is the individual characteristic that covers the age (X1), gender (X2), marital status (X3), education (X4), work period (X5), amount of the responsibility (X6), ability (X7), personality (X8), behaviour (X9), and satisfaction of the work (X10). The instruments existed in the questionnaire are firstly tested by Cronbach Alpha. The data analysis use descriptive and quantitative method. The descriptive method uses crosstab (cross tabulation) by analyzing every variable crossly. While the quantitative method applied the discriminated stepwise model because the dependent variable is the categorical one and canonical correlation analysis.
The results show that there are four independent variables having the significant role in the improvement of employee’s output in PT. TIKI JNE Malang Branch, such as the variable of the personality (0,548), behavioral (0,433), and ability (-0,315). At the same time as the variable of the age, marital status, education, work periods, amount of the responsibility, and satisfaction of the work have less significant role in the improvement of the employee’s output in PT. TIKI JNE Malang Branch leading to the result that such variables are found not significant. Therefore, it can be concluded that to be able to achieve of the expected output, it is important to notice personality, behavioral as required in a certain position and to adapt between the personality of the employee and the position occupied.
