Abstract

INDONESIA:

Self esteem merupakan hasil evaluasi individu terhadap dirinya sendiri dalam rentang dimensi positif sampai dengan negatif. Self esteem mahasiswa tingkat akhir mengevaluasi dirinya sendiri dalam pengerjaan skripsi. Perbedaan progres antar mahasiswa dalam pengerjaan skripsi membuat mahasiswa melakukan perbandingan sosial, merasa termotivasi atau merasa lebih buruk sehingga mempengaruhi self esteem-nya. Self esteem dapat dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor salah satunya adalah significant other respectfull. Hal tersebut selaras dengan social support yang berasal dari keluarga, teman, dan significant other. Smet (1994 dalam Kumalasari & Ahyani, 2012) mengungkapkan bahwa individu akan lebih merasa tenang, diperhatikan, percaya diri dan kompeten dalam menjalankan aktivitasnya jika ia mendapatkan dukungan dari lingkungannya. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat self esteem mahasiswa serta untuk melihat pengaruh social support terhadap self esteem mahasiswa tingkat akhir Fakultas Psikologi UIN Malang.

Pada penelitian ini, variabel bebas (X) ditunjukkan dengan social support sedangkan variabel terikat (Y) ditunjukkan dengan self esteem. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data purposive sampling (nonproblability sampling). Subjek penelitian merupakan mahasiswa tingkat akhir Fakultas Psikologi UIN Malang (semester 7-11) dengan ukuran sampel 105. Instrumen pada penelitian ini menggunakan dua skala adaptasi yaitu Social Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) milik Zimet, Dahlem, & Farley (1988) untuk mengukur social support dan Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSES) milik Rosenberg (1979) untuk mengukur self esteem. Data dianalisis menggunakan regresi linear sederhana.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas mahasiswa tingkat akhir Fakultas Psikologi UIN Malang memiliki tingkat social support dengan kategori tinggi sebesar 98,1% dan tingkat self esteem pada kategori sedang sebesar 50,5%. Social support terbukti berpengaruh positif secara signifikan terhadap self esteem (R2=0,125; p<0,05). Artinya, social support berkontribusi 12,5% terhadap self esteem.

Self-esteem is the result of an individual's evaluation in the range of positive and negative dimensions. Self-esteem of final-year students evaluate themselves in finalizing thesis. The progress differences between students in
finalizing the thesis can make social comparisons, feel motivated or feel worse so that it affects the self-esteem. Self Esteem can be influenced by several factors,one of which is significant other respect. This is in line with the social support that comes from family, friends, and the significant other. Smet (1994 in Kumalasari & Ahyani, 2012) stated that individuals will feel more calm, cared for, confident and competent in carrying out the activities if they get support from the environment. Therefore, the research aims at determining the level of student Self- esteem and seeing the effect of social support against the Self-esteem of final-year students of the Faculty of Psychology, Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University of Malang.

In the research, the independent variable (X) is indicated by social support while the dependent variable (Y) is indicated by self-esteem. The research used a quantitative approach with purposive sampling (nonprobability sampling) data collection technique. The research subjects were final-year students of the Faculty of Psychology, Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University of Malang (semester of 7-11) with a sample of 105.The instrument used two adaptation
scales, namely the Social Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) belonging to Zimet, Dahlem, & Farley (1988) to measure social support and Rosenberg's Self-esteem Scale (RSES) by Rosenberg (1979) to measure self-
esteem. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression.

The research results showed that the majority of the final-year students of the Faculty of Psychology, Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University of Malang had a high level of social support with a category of 98.1% and a level of
Self-esteem was in the medium category of 50.5%. Social support had a significant positive influence against Self-esteem (R2 = 0.125; p <0.05). That was, social support contributed 12.5% against self-esteem
