Abstract
INDONESIA:
ENGLISH:
The absorbable yarn sewing operations generally has weakness causing inflammatory reactions, complicated process and expensive. There are few the absorbable yarn sewing industry in Indonesia it gives impact on imported products. So it is necessary to develop the manufacture of absorbable suture with material of papaya gum to cover the wound. Absorbable suture was made using the mixture of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-glycolic acid (GA) and papaya gum. Sample preparation was done by dissolving polyvinyl alcohol and glycolic acid into distilled water. Papaya gums were added by concentration of 6.25; 7.5; 8.75; 10; 11.25; and 12.5 (ml) in 25 ml of PVA-GA. A mixture of PVA-GA and papaya gum formed were characterized using FT-IR test, test the mechanical properties, and anti-bacterial test. FTIR test results shown the presence of several functional groups included carbonyl (C=O), alkene (C=C), and the hydroxyl (O=H). The highest tensile strength value of papaya gum was 41.05 Mpa at a concentration of 6.25 ml. Solubility of thin layer into NaCl 0.9% can be dissolved slowly until completely dissolved reach within 2 days. Diameter of inhibition zone formed on a mix of papaya gum and PVA-GA was moderated in papaya gum concentration of 6.25-11.25 (ml), On the other side the inhibition zone diameter was wide in the concentration of papaya gum was 12.5 ml.
