Abstract
INDONESIA:
ENGLISH:
One of the renewable energy storage systems which widely used is lithium ion batteries. In the lithium ion batteries, there are four main parts: anode, separator, electrolyte and cathode. Research of synthesis of carbon coated graphite citric acid as a anode aims to improve the performance of lithium ion batteries. Method of coating done by mixing graphite and citric acid with variations of composition that are 1:0.5, 1:1, 1:3. Process of coating started by mixing graphite and citric acid with ethanol as a solvent for 6 hours then heating at oven 80°C for 3 days, drying stages in furnace at a temperature of 350oC for 5 hours, and sintering 600oC for 4 hours. Identification of phase formed is drawn by XRD, microstructure with SEM/EDX, oxidation-reduction reactions with cyclic voltammetry and capacity of the battery with charge-discharge. From this research, it’s obtained the results of XRD that all of samples have a phase of carbon (C) with a hexagonal structure and is not diverted peak due to the process of coating of carbon. The SEM results shows that carbon particles distributed evenly, with the form of particles round (sphere). Based on the CV has demonstrated the existence of formed oxidation-reduction reactions and based on the result of CD shows that the capacity is very dependent on the influence of carbon, particle size, and their agglomeration. But coating causing the surface graphite covered at process intercalation lithium so capacity is always reducing.
