Abstract
INDONESIA:
Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk memanfaatkan potensi limbah cangkang Kerang Simping untuk dimanfaatkan menjadi papan komposit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari ukuran filler dan komposisi serbuk cangkang Kerang Simping yang menghasilkan nilai fisis dan mekanis yang baik. Pembuatan papan komposit dilakukan dengan mencampurkan serbuk cangkang Kerang Simping dengan resin poliester dan mencetaknya sesuai bentuk sampel uji. Hasil dari penelitian ini, nilai densitas 1,359-1,756 g/cm2; persentase daya serap 0,50-5,97%; persentase pengembangan tebal 0,20-7,50%; keteguhan tarik 0,1705-1,462 MPa; modulus Young 35,3-105,5 MPa; dan keteguhan lentur 39,4-132,8 MPa. Peningkatan komposisi dan ukuran filler yang semakin halus berpengaruh pada ukuran gelembung-gelembung udara yang semakin kecil. Peningkatan nilai keteguhan lentur mencapai 44% pada variasi ukuran filler. Penghematan komposisi matriks resin poliester hingga 40% w/w dengan jumlah komposisi filler lebih banyak jika dibandingkan dengan serbuk kalsit alam. Hasil yang dicapai telah sesuai dengan SNI standar partikel.
ENGLISH:
This study was done to take advantage of the potential of waste Windowpane oyster shells as filler material to be utilized as composite board. This study aims to find the size and the composition of the Windowpane oyster shells powder as filler that have good value physical and mechanical properties. Manufacture of composite boards was made by mixing Windowpane oyster shell powder with polyester resin and mould into appropriate form of the test sample. It was pointed out that density values from 1,359 to 1,756 g/cm2; percentage water absorption from 0,50 to 5,97%; percentage swelling in thickness after immersion in water from 0,20 to 7,50%; tensile strength from 0,1705 to 1,462 MPa; Young modulus from 35,3 to 105,5 MPa; and bending strength from 39,4 to 132,8 MPa. The increasing of the composition and the more subtle size was affected on the more smaller trapped air bubbles. The increasing value of bending strength was attained 44% on the variations of filler size. The economizing of composition polyester resins as matrix was attained 40% w/w, had more numerous of filler composition than the use of natural calcite powder. Results was acceptable with SNI standard particle board.
