Abstract

INDONESIA :

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan kecerdasan emosi siswa berdasarkan program kelas dan jenis kelamin di SMAN 4 Malang, SMAN 5 Malang, dan SMAN 8 Malang. Teori utama yang digunakan adalah teori K.V. Petrides mengenai kecerdasan emosi (model Trait EI). Kecerdasan emosi yang dimaksud yakni persepsi individu mengenai kemampuan emosinya.

Penelitian kuantitatif ini menggunakan rancangan penelitian deskriptif komparatif. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa SMAN 4 Malang, SMAN 5 Malang, dan SMAN 8 Malang. Sampel berjumlah 84 responden, yakni 42 siswa akselerasi yang diambil dengan teknik sampling jenuh (sensus) dan 42 siswa reguler yang diambil dengan teknik sampling kuota. Seluruh sampel kemudian dibedakan berdasarkan jenis kelamin, sehingga didapat responden siswa laki-laki sebanyak 32 orang dan siswa perempuan sebanyak 52 orang. Adapun instrumen penelitian yang digunakan merupakan adaptasi skala TEIQue-ASF dari K. V. Petrides.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 70,2% responden memiliki kecerdasan emosi sedang. Sedangkan 14,3% responden berada di kategori tinggi dan 15,5% responden di kategori rendah. Berdasarkan uji Independent Sample T-Test, didapatkan hasil bahwa tidak ada perbedaan (p = 0,404, p > 0,05) kecerdasan emosi antara siswa akselerasi dan siswa reguler; dan tidak ada perbedaan (p = 0,609, p > 0,05) kecerdasan emosi antara siswa laki-laki dan siswa perempuan. Sehingga, dapat disimpulkan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan signifikan kecerdasan emosi siswa berdasarkan program kelas dan jenis kelamin di SMAN 4 Malang, SMAN 5 Malang, dan SMAN 8 Malang.

ENGLISH :

This study aims at determining differences in emotional intelligence of students based on class program and gender in Public Senior High School 4, Public Senior High School 5, and Public Senior High School 8 Malang. The main theory applied is a theory by K.V. Petrides concerning on emotional intelligence (Trait EI models). The term “emotional intelligence” in this study refers to individual perception related to the ability of their emotions.

This quantitative study uses a comparative descriptive study design. The subjects are students of Public Senior High School 4, Public Senior High School 5, and Public Senior High School 8 Malang. From the total of 84 respondents selected as samples, 42 students are acceleration students selected by using saturated sampling technique (census) and the other 42 students are regular students selected by using quota sampling technique. The entire samples are then distinguished based on gender that the samples are divided into 32 male student respondents and 52 female student respondents. Research instrument used in this study is TEIQue- ASF scale adaptation of K. V. Petrides.

The results showed that 70.2% of respondents have moderate emotional intelligence, while 14.3% of respondents are considered as the high category and the other 15.5% of respondents have the low category of emotional intelligence. Independent Sample T-Test shows that there is not difference (p = 0.404, p> 0.05) in emotional intelligence between acceleration students and regular students; and there is not difference (p = 0.609, p> 0.05) in emotional intelligence between male students and female students. Thus, it can be concluded that there are not significant differences in the emotional intelligence of students based on class program and gender in Public Senior High School 4, Public Senior High School 5, and Public Senior High School 8 Malang.
