Abstract

INDONESIA:

Masa remaja adalah masa transisi dalam rentang kehidupan manusia, yang menjembatani masa kanak-kanak dengan masa dewasa. Perubahan yang menandai perkembangan pada remaja mencakup meningkatnya usaha untuk memahami diri sendiri serta pencarian identitas salah satunya identitas gender.Identitas gender adalah sifat dan perilaku yang diterapkan dalam kehidupan sehari hari yang membentuk suatu identitas tersendiri bagi laki-laki dan perempuan salah satunya yaitu identitas gender. Menurut Taylor (2009) remaja mempelajari sifat dan perilaku melalui sosialisasibaik melalui orang tua maupun teman sebaya. Dalam Penelitian ini menguji hubungan antara sosialisasi gender orang tua dengan identitas gender remaja.

Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan strategi penelitian survei yang bersifat deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah simple random sampling. Responden penelitian adalah remaja akhir usia 19-21 yang menempuah kuliah dijurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang dengan jumlah total 80 responden mahasiswa. Pada penelitian ini digunakan dua jenis kuesioner yaitu kuesioner identitas gender dan sosialisasi gender orang tua untuk mengumpulkan data. Untuk melihat seberapa besar hubungan antara sosialisasi gender orang tua dengan identitas gender digunakan metode analisis chi square.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sosialisasi gender oleh orang tua tidak berhubungan dengan identitas gender remaja. Namun demikian, ditemukan bahwa sosialisasi gender oleh orang tua egaliter memiliki hubungan dengan identitas gender androgini. Pada penelitian ini juga ditemukan bahwa sosialisasi gender oleh orang tua egaliter lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan sosialisasi gender oleh orang tua tradisional. Diketahui pula bahwa orang tua yang menerapkan sosialisasi gender yang lebih egaliter pada remaja perempuan dari pada remaja laki-laki. Jumlah responden perempuan lebih besar dibandingkan responden laki-laki sehingga nilai feminitas lebih besar dari pada nilai maskulin dan androgini. Penelitian ini juga menemukan adanya hubungan karakteristik jenis kelamin dengan identitas gender dan tingkat pendidikan ayah dengan sosialisasi gender. Namun demikian, ditemukan bahwa sosialisasi gender oleh orang tua egaliter memiliki hubungan dengan identitas gender androgini.

ENGLISH:

Adolescence is the unique period in the life cycle. It was the transitional stage from childhood to adult. The cognitive, social, and physical changes experienced by adolescents marked their development and increased their effort to understand themselves and search for identity. Identity itself is a sign that refers to individual in particular. Identity within oneself is indicated by the nature and behavior that applied in their daily lives. Thereunto, through these kind of behaviors, there were some distinctive characteristic occurred between men and woman. According to Taylor (2009), trough socialization adolescents developed their characteristic and behavior. Such behavior was merely influenced by parents and children interactions. For adolescents, parentsare the primary influenceon gender role development in the early years ofone’s life. Thus, their interactions will lead to the formation of gender identity such as masculinity, femininity, and androgyny. Accordingly, this study aimed to examine the relationship between socialization and the way gender identity roles within the parents at English Language and Literature Department Students’ of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang.

Quantitative research with descriptive survey design was used in this study. Furthermore, as the data collection technique, the researcher used simple random sampling with total of 80 respondents’ taken from the students majoring in English Language and Literature UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. Two types of questionnaires namely questionnaires on gender identity and gender sensitization of parents were also used to collect the necessary data. Then, in order to see the intense relationship between socialization and the gender roles identity within the parents, chi- square was used to analyze the obtainable data.

The research findings showed that gender socialization made by egalitarian parents was higher than those made by traditional parent. It also found that parents were applied more egalitarian gender socialization to the adolescent girls. However, the value of femininity is greater than the value of masculinity and androgyny because female respondents were bigger than the male respondent. Furthermore, the study also revealed that there was an association between sex characteristic with gender identity and father's education level with gender socialization. Additionally, based on chi square analysis, it can be concluded that there were no any relationship between the socialization and the gender roles identity within the parents. However, it found the relation between egalitarian parents with the androgynous gender identity.
