Abstract

INDONESIA:

Salah satu upaya peningkatan produktivitas tebu adalah menyediakan bibit berkualitas. Bibit asal bud chip merupakan alternatif bahan tanam yang lebih efesien dan ekonomis dalam pengiriman bibit tebu, namun bibit ini memiliki keterbatasan berupa cadangan makanan yang sedikit dan bersifat rekalsiltran sehingga persentase pertumbuhan bibit cepat menurun apabila tidak segera ditanam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi kitosan terhadap pertumbuhan vegetatif dan daya simpan bibit tebu (Saccharum officinarum L.) asal bud chip varietas PSJT 941 dan mengetahui konsentrasi optimal untuk menyimpan bibit tebu (Saccharum officinarum L.) asal bud chip varietas PSJT 941.

Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) dengan 5 taraf konsentrasi kitosan yaitu 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%. Prosedur penelitian dimulai dari penyiapan bibit, penanaman bibit di bedengan, penyiapan larutan kitosan, proses pelapisan kitosan pada bibit tebu, proses penyimpanan dan penanaman. Parameter pengamatan terdiri dari warna bibit, persentase pertumbuhan, jumlah helai daun dan panjang helai daun.

Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pertumbuhan vegetatif dan daya simpan bibit tebu asal bud chip cenderung menurun seiring dengan lamanya masa simpan. Terdapat pengaruh antara pemberian konsentasi kitosan dengan persentase tumbuh, jumlah daun, panjang daun, warna daun dan daya simpan. Pertumbuhan vegetatif dan daya simpan bibit tebu asal bud chip masih bisa dipertahankan hingga 12 hari dengan pelapisan kitosan 6% yang ditunjukkan dengan persentase bibit tumbuh dan pertumbuhan vegetatif bibit masih cukup baik.

One of increasing efforts of sugar cane productivity is providing quality seeds. Seed from bud chip is an alternative of planting matter that more efficient and economically in delivery of seed sugar cane, but these seeds have limitations in little food reserves and have rekalsiltran characteristic (have many water inside seed), so percentage of growing seed decrease rapidly if did not planted immediately. This study aims to determine the effect of chitosan concentration on vegetative growth and storability of sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum L.) seed from bud chip PSJT 941 varieties and determine the optimal concentration for storing sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum L.) seed from bud chip PSJT 941 varieties.

This research is using a randomized block design (RAK) with 5 chitosan concentration level of 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%. Research procedure is begun by seedlings preparation, planting seed in beds, preparation of chitosan solution, chitosan coating’s process on cane seed, storage and planting’s process. Parameter observations consisted of seed color, growth percentages, the number of leaves and long leaves.

The study results indicate that vegetative growth and storability of sugar cane seed frombud chips tend decreases as long storage time.There is influence between giving chitosan concentrations with growing percentage, leaves total, leaf length, leaf colour and storability.Vegetative growth and storabilityof sugar cane seed frombud chip can still be maintained up to 12 days with coating of chitosan 6% indicated by percentage of seed growthand vegetative growth is still quite good.
