Pengaruh self objectification dan body shame terhadap kepercayaan diri pada mahasiswi fakultas Ekonomi UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang

ABSTRAK:

Budaya objektifikasi ialah sistem budaya yang di dalamnya terdapat sebuah praktek objektifikasi seperti halnya mengevaluasi dan mengomentari tubuh. Budaya objektifikasi secara tidak langsung dapat mempengaruhi seorang wanita dalam memperlakukan dirinya sebagai objek yang diamati dan dievaluasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui “Pengaruh Self Objectification dan Body Shame terhadap Kepercayaan Diri.

Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis pendekatan kuantitatif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini yakni mahasiswi fakultas Ekonomi UIN Malang yang berjumlah 93 orang. Terdapat tiga variabel, yang terdiri dari variabel bebas yaitu Self Objectification, lalu variabel mediator yakni Body Shame dan variabel terikat yaitu Kepercayaan Diri. Alat ukur yang digunakan pada variabel Self Objectification merupakan adaptasi dari skala Self Objectification Scale (SOS) oleh Sarah Dahl (2014). Sedangkan untuk variable Body Shame diadaptasi dari skala BISS (Body Image Shame Scale) oleh Gilbert & Milles (2002) dan untuk variabel Kepercayaan Diri dimodifikasi dari aspek menurut Lauster (1990).

Hasil analisis regresi dengan variabel mediator menunjukkan bahwa terjadi mediasi parsial. Hasil regresi variabel Self Objectification terhadap Body Shame (jalur a)menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dengan hasil signifikansi 0,000 (p<0,05). Lalu pada variabel Body Shame terhadap Kepercayaan Diri (jalur b) juga menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dengan hasil signifikansi 0,040 (p<0,05). Kemudian hasil Self Objectification terhadap Kepercayaan Diri melalui Variabel Body Shame (jalur c’) menunjukkan signifikan dengan hasil dignifikansi 0,039 (p<0,05), dikarenakan jalur c’ menghasilkan nilai yang signifikan maka terjadi mediasi secara parsial. Dari hasil tersebut dapat diartikan bahwa self objectification berpengaruh terhadap kepercayaan diri mahasiswi fakultas Ekonomi UIN Malang dengan perantara body shame.

ABSTRACT:

Objectification culture is a cultural system in which there is an
objectification practice as well as evaluating and commenting on the body.
Objectification culture can indirectly influence a woman in treating herself as an
object that is observed and evaluated. As a phenomenon in the students of the
Faculty of Economics UIN Malang, they will ensure in detail their appearance
when going to travel because they are afraid of getting negative comments from
other people about their appearance that is not following the existing environment.
Based on the description of the problems above, the purpose of this study is to
find out "The Effect of Self Objectification and Body Shame on Confidence.
This research uses a quantitative approach. The subjects in this study were
93 students of faculty Economics UIN Malang. There are three variables,
consisting of independent variables, namely Self Objectification, then the
mediator variable, namely Body Shame and the dependent variable, namely
Confidence. The measuring instrument used in the Self Objectification variable is
an adaptation of the Self Objectification Scale (SOS) scale by Sarah Dahl (2014).
Whereas the Body Shame variable was adapted from the BISS (Body Image
Shame Scale) scale by Gilbert & Milles (2002) and the Confidence variable was
modified from aspects according to Lauster (1990).
The results of the regression analysis of the Self Objectification variable
on Body Shame (path a) showed a significant effect with a significant result of
0,000 (p <0.05). Then the Body Shame variable on Confidence (lane b) also
showed a significant effect with a significance result of 0.040 (p <0.05). Then the
results of Self Objectification on Confidence through the Body Shame Variable
(path c ') shows significant with the results of significance 0.039 (p <0.05),
because path c' produces a significant value there is partial mediation. From these
results, it can be interpreted that self-objectification affects the self-confidence of
students of the Faculty of Economics UIN Malang by means of body shame.
