Abstract
ABSTRACT
Methicilin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a Staphylococcus aureus bacterium that is resistant to the type of antibiotic methicillin and several other types of antibiotics, to prevent the conflict that is needed by alternative drugs. Papaya plant (Carica Papaya L) is a plant that is easily obtained in tropical areas including in Indonesia and produces every year, papaya leaves and seeds (Carica Papaya L) is the most widely used and proven benefits which can be used as a bacterium such as flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, tannins, and terpenoids. So, researchers tested the effectiveness of papaya leaves and seeds extract (Carica Papaya L) against Methicilin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteria by In Vitro. The purpose of this study is to compare the research of papaya leaves and seeds (Carica Papaya L) against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and determine the inhibitory zone of extraction. This research was carried out by the diffusion method, where each cup that had a bacterial streak was given a disk with the concentration of 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, 50%, and 100%, the test parameters were inhibitory zones (clear zone) formed around the disk. As a result, papaya seed extract (Carica Papaya L) can inhibit MRSA bacteria at a concentration of 100%, but papaya leaf extract (Carica Papaya L) cannot inhibit the bacteria tested. In conclusion, papaya seeds (Carica Papaya L) are more effective against MRSA bacteria with an average inhibition zone of 1,6mm, compared to papaya leaves (Carica Papaya L) which do not have inhibitory zones.

Methicilin Resisten Staphylococcus aureaus (MRSA) merupakan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus yang resisten antibiotik jenis methicilin dan beberapa jenis antibiotik lainnya, untuk mengurangi kejadian resistensi dibutuhkan obat alternatif. Tumbuhan pepaya (Carica Papaya L) merupakan tumbuhan yang mudah didapatkan didaerah tropis termasuk di Indonesia dan berproduksi setiap tahun, daun dan biji pepaya (Carica Papaya L) merupakan bagian yang jarang dimanfaatkan, dan terbukti mengandung senyawa yang dapat menghambat bakteri seperti: flavonoid, saponin, alkaloid, tanin, dan terpenoid. Sehingga, peneliti menguji efektivitas antibakteri ekstrak daun dan biji pepaya (Carica Papaya L) terhadap bakteri Methicilin Resisten Staphylococcus aureaus (MRSA) secara In Vitro. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu membandingkan efektivitas daun dan biji pepaya (Carica Papaya L) terhadap bakteri Methicilin Resisten Staphylococcus aureaus (MRSA), dan menentukan zona hambat ekstrak. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode difusi, dimana setiap cawan yang telah di streak bakteri diberikan disk dengan konsentrasi yaitu: 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, 50%, dan 100%, parameter pengujian yaitu zona hambat (zona bening) yang terbentuk disekitar disk. Hasilnya, ekstrak biji pepaya (Carica Papaya L) dapat menghambat bakteri MRSA pada konsentrasi 100%, namun ekstrak daun pepaya (Carica Papaya L) tidak dapat menghambat bakteri yang di uji. Kesimpulan, biji pepaya (Carica Papaya L) lebih efektif menghambat bakteri MRSA dengan rata-rata zona hambat 1,6mm, dibandingkan daun pepaya (Carica Papaya L) yang tidak memiliki zona hambat.
